Monitor adjustment time? (a thread you may not want to miss)

It is very important that your monitor be calibrated correctly so that you can properly evaluate items you might want to buy, so I am providing you with an image of the cover of a recent catalog which may help you in comparing the catalog to the image of the catalog to help you determine the accuracy of your monitor.

I do this from time to time for selfish reasons (I want you to be able to properly evaluate my offerings) and also to help you have a correctly calibrated monitor so that you may evaluate the images others post.

I picked this particular catalog because it is readily available in most households, not for any other reason and certainly not because a girl in a bathing suit appears on the cover. I would not do that. Never. Not under any circumstances whatsoever. I am not that kind of a guy. Well, I might actually do it if someone held a gun to my head. Maybe even a high powered pellet gun. A high powered pellet gun can really, really hurt you. Or a club. Not necessarily a large club but one that could inflict severe damage, or kill you. Actually, maybe not SEVERE damge but I would be remiss to suffer moderate damage or maybe even a headache or a serious bruise. I would post it because it had a girl on it to avert a very serious bruise. Well, the girl's not naked, so maybe I would post it simply because it's a pretty girl maybe even a avoid a small bruise. But never an abraison especially a really, really small one. I would suffer a really, really small abraison, before I posted it for no other reason whatsoever other than to show you the image of a pretty girl. I would do that to avoid posting for just that reason and that reason alone. You can trust me on that.

I would also like to add that i have posted this not because Carol is still probably asleep or because she may not even be monitoring the boards today. I posted it today because my desire to help my friends came to me today and one day of monitor miscalibration could cause someone to buy a coin or piece of currency that they would lose money on. Money that could go to feed their family or help pay for medical care or maybe even to repair their car that takes them to work. I posted it as a public service. I'm sure Carol would not object to that. She is fair minded and cares about others. I know that as I know the sun will rise tomorrow.

I know this is on page 2 so I'll qoute everything so no one will have to toggle back to page one to see the monitor calibration picture.

First of all, I can't see why you would use this particular photo for monitor calibration. There are very few blues and reds in the photo shown. As you are well aware many monster toned coins have awesome reds and blues. The only red in the whole monitor calibration picture is that awful pinky red in the catalogue title and the "special offer" bullet. No fuschias or magenta's to calibrate my monitor, I know, I've looked at the monitor calibration photo (MCP) very carefully. Unfortunately my wife (who carefully monitors what I monitor my monitor with) has already discarded the original hard copy of the MCP catalogue, so I was restrictrd to only viewing the on-screen image. I also looked very carefully for that wonderful emerald green that shows up on some of those toned dollars that appear on your website and GSAGuy's posts and coingame2000's threads and even though I looked at the MCP at least 6 times (and carefully, I might add), I still could not find any nice greens with which to calibrate my monitor. I mean, you don't seriously think that that washed out olive green to the right of MCP's upper torso can possibly be used to calibrate the Green in my RGB monitor? I mean look real close, I did (several more times & absolutely no help).

BUT - it gets even worse. The only real color that could possibly be used to calibrate my monitor so that I know it's precisely accurate for viewing toned coins, is the yellow. Now I like toned coins - they are really neat coins, so I went and got one of my only toned Morgan Dollars that I know has yellow in it (for comparision purposes only of course, and just to show my desire only to help educate our other forum members, I'm attaching an image of that coin as it does has some "yellow" in it.

I'm going to ask our other forum members to please examine the toned Morgan and then, please (for educational purposes only), examine the yellow that's in the MCP - (carefully, you can't just take a quick look - several careful examinations are required). Now tell me Adrain, (and other forum members who have taken the time to assist in this educational endeavor) how can that yellow POSSIBLY help calibrate my monitor for looking at toned coins? It's canary yellow! Have you ever seen a canary yellow toned coin? Look again very carefully at the MCP and I'm sure you will all agree that we need to post another picture with better colors if we are going to be able to properly calibrate our monitors.

Adrain, I would suggest that you have your wife help you select the next MCP - I'm sure she'll find an image that has more colors in it so that we can properly calibrate our monitors.

I really think that if you are going to cal your monitor you must use all the colors of the rainbow to see if they all come to life properly on your screen. Just like this

Once I got my monitor calibrated correctly and cleaned off my screen for a sharper image......
I could see evidence of altered surfaces, some pitting, one large carbon spot on her neck,
and some possible underlying target toning.
A GREAT, scantly Clad MS68* specimen!

Now Adrian, it's VERY difficult to adjust your computer monitor to an image like this...........when you use a laptop like i do......

.......the freakin thing keeps shifting and i'm beginning to feel a little light headed also!

You have to turn the dials on your monitor! If that doesn't work, try "strip and dip"
