    Very nice selection Xpiperdream.The sixpence and the Victorian farthing are my favourites, but the little George VI farthing is a great little coin too, don't you think?

    I like them. It looks like some of them came from eaglecoin. I was watching that 1885 farthing for a while when it was on ebay...

    very nice coins and pictures...the 87 3d could be a maundy coin, I would need to see it. Lloyd could probaby make that determination from the picture,

    Afraid not. It's likely a business strike. The maundy set issued in 1887 still had the "young head."

    It may also be difficult to distinguish proofs of this year from common business strikes since this was first year of issue. Checking rims is the recommended procedure, but the edges on 3ds are smooth, so even that easy check is not possible.

    It's the '53 GB.

    By the way, what exactly are Maundy coins. I've heard the term, and read a little about them, but I'm still not too clear on the conceptimage

    Maundy coins are silver1, 2, 3, and 4 p coins struck to be distributed on Maundy Thursday (the day before Good Friday). Originally they were distributed to the poor, but now they are given to people who are recognized for their community service (or perhaps service to the crown) and sold to collectors. Since they're silver, the 1 p coins are really small! I believe they are all struck with the young portraits of Victoria and Elizabeth II no matter the date. If you ever wonder why you have found a young head 189X 3 p, it would be because the coin was a Maundy coin.

    BTW, that's a nice 1887 3 p you have! I need one just like it for my silver Golden Jubilee set. image

    Unfortunately, I can't find it. And my own pic of the coin wouldn't compare, believe me!
