The previous owner lost nothing. PCGS bought the coin back.

It was bought by the book, IE the reserve. That's a no sale. PCGS did a deal with the owner, not Heritage.

In fact, I bet he is one of only a few that will ever know what was actually paid. Hey Russ, send him the prize.

Which is precisely the problem. It doesn't matter what the web site says because we'll never know what it actually sold for. Those who were in attendance stated very clearly that it was sold to book. That is a no sale.
That said, this is a ridiculous argument. I wanted to give the dog away. I don't want the coin.
I'll go dig through the thread and verify, but if Smamika had a guess of $40,250 it's all his.

Russ, that is not accurate. Book is one of two things, 1) the reserve, 2) the high bid at the auction start ie:internet bid, mail bid, fax bid. Often the book continues to bid against the floor as the proxies are exhausted. I saw many auction sell to book today where book bids were placed against floor bidders.

Ah, didn't know that. I think I now have figured out what happened here.
