My guess is that's the reserve and it doesn't sell.

There's still more than eight days to go before the close of internet bidding, which is the established ending time for the contest. Maybe I'll close it off early, though. Let me think about it.
Okay, I've thought about it. Contest deadline is now tomorrow, 12.31 at 8 PM Pacific time. That's seven days from close of internet bidding. Get those guesses in now!
Procrastination providing an edge, I'll guess 66,125 with the juice. I can't believe it. I do agree it's priceless, but there has to be an end somewhere. And Russ, I'm not drunk yet, but working on it.
This is pure ego, nothing else, anyone who's seen this coin knows it's not a 70 now. Someone once pointed out to me [I think it was Russ] that pcgs probably did not make such an obvious mistake in grading this coin, and that it turned in the holder from either an improper dipp or not letting the coin fully dry after rinsing from the dipp before slabbing, I'm not going to start the old arguement about moderns not being worth this much, but even modern lovers who've seen this coin must admit it's no better then a 66dcam and worth less then 5 bucks as such. Such an obvious "bad" coin should be purchased off the market. David, if you've seen the picture of this coin, please tell me why this coin is not repurchased by pcgs and reslabbed at the proper grade that it is now ???

The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.
I just took a look at the photo of this coin that is with the auction site. The coin looks just as bad as it did in the COINage picture that appeared in the magazine last spring. If the coin were in a cardboard 2X2 that was held together with staples instead of a PCGS PR-70 DCAM holder, you would be darn lucky to get $5 for it. Those who care about the DCAM would look at it and say, "Isn't it a shame that coin has those spots on obverse." And, "Gee it's too bad that piece is starting to turn brown."
One of board members here had a good tag line for this stituation.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
We're down to only six potential winners in the contest.
If the current bid amount stood, TWODOGS would win with his guess of $47,642. There are five others in the running with guesses above the current level:
TDN: 52,500 plus juice (60,375) Wolfy00002: 62,000 MSD61: 62,500 Wondo: 54,000 plus juice (62,100) Jxnboy: 66,125
A lot of people's guesses are back in the action. But, if Stewarts assertion that the reserve is $35K is correct, than the coin will likely end up being a no sale.

Good for them!
In browsing the catalog, I noticed several of the PF70 and PF69's with what appeared to be spots....
I saw the updated pics as well. I don't Proof memorials, but I have a couple proof memorials sitting 2X2's that look similar, and with NO SPOTS.
I agree, Russ should give us an update on those still in the running.
Thank You for the chance to win the (DOG)

More like 64.
Such an obvious "bad" coin should be purchased off the market.
Of course, but not yet. Maybe after a few dozen more are slabbed and a fair market value can more easily be established.

I'm also aghast at the PCGS 67 1900 Lafayette Dollar which is now at $58,000 not counting the juice.

That makes sense, since it was Heritage's picture from the first sale.
