Anyone else ever feel *stalked* on ebay?

I was bidding on some low price, raw, coins and got beat out by a robertramsey1.
Didn't think too much until he started outbidding me on other things (proof sets, etc).

Maybe I was just paranoid...I did some more digging and this guy has 272 pages show up when I did a search for past/present auctions he has bid on (last month or so).
He has bid on some VERY questionable items and from VERY questionable sellers.

Well, if he is stalking me after all, I will at least jack him up on some of the bids on things and if he still wins, then he pays more image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    There used to be this Hepcatradio bidder that would outgun and outbid people when it came to Franklins...

    Or, maybe the person bought out all the nice ones...kinda hoarded 'em? image

    Russ and Marty are the worst. They do it to me all the time. I think they look up my user ID to see what I'm bidding on.image

    That's why you should snipe!!!

    It does not let the rest of the world know what you are bidding on until it is too late.

    There are some people I check to see what they bid on. But the items they buy are not high dollar enough for me. image

    I have the opposite problem. There are 2 people I occasionally 'spy' on, but they buy things I usually can't afford. I just get to look at some cool auctions that way...I know, I need to get a life of my own some day.

    BTW MrMoo, I love your name, it's one of the nicknames I use for my kids.

    It happens to me also. My id and website have attracted interest and when I bid people know there might be something there (even when there might not be).

    A few months back i had three Proof Liberty nickles that I needed for my set poped out from under me by the same guy over the space of a few weeks. In all fairness, he was willing to bid more then I was, and did so in all cases, paying what I felt was fair value plus a bit more each time. He fell asleep at the wheel and I beat him on one though :-) I've not seen him about fora bit, perhaps he finished his set, or has moved on to parts I have finished in mine :-)

    Sometimes - if I have time, and I am really interested in winning, I will check what my competitors have bid on to see how serious they may be about outbidding me. I have in the past outbid a person because they beat me on another auction. I also sometimes check my bidders, if they have low feedback or negatives, to see how serious they may be. You could also wear a disguise! image

    I seldom, if ever win an auction on Ebay on my ID. I've felt for several years that certain people watch my bids and know I'm going to resell the item and feel they can make a buck instead of me. I use my wife's ID to bid on coins I really want.

    Well,

    I held off of the sniping programs until now, just on principle and I didn't want to hassle, but, I have now decided to look into them.
    Trying to find the best one at the lowest price (looks like esnipe charges after 14 day trial period).

    Yeah...I have heard that Marty, Russ, Don, and Ken are all despicable at hunting user IDs and sniping away from innocents.

    I generally win about 75% of my auctions, and I also keep track of items I get sniped on to see how tight the market is in certain areas. I also have several Ebay accounts. I use one consistently that I know many follow. If a coin is a high grade, and it is something I need, I bid it above where most dealers can make a profit, and they don’t snipe or they lose. 2nd if a coin opens high but there are no bids, but I feel they are coming at the end, I try to get the seller to end the auction. Third if the coin is a key for me, I use a different I.D. and bid the last few hours at a retail price. I have found that most snipers are dealers trying to steal items so if I lose a particular coin a couple of times, and it does not appear from the sheets to be that rare, I assume that this coin is harder to find than what is published, and mark that on my work sheet. The next time it comes for sale I bid it 10% over retail and nearly always win. 95% of the time a dealer cannot compete with a collector, since they will get stuck if they pay too much. This also means that most collectors are not going to get any real bargains on better date, and better grade coins.

    You run into different bidding foes depending on the segment.

    I love to run into a foe who has come back and placed a number of bids on a coin (they usually are power sellers). I bid it up in order to trigger their highest bid.

    If you can't outbid them, at least you can help drain their resources by making them pay their max bid. I think the best I've done is about $200

    I've stalked a jerk that sniped me before. I made him pay too. I kept bidding on coins he wanted. He finally emailed me, and He agreed to stop bidding on a coin I wanted. He won the bid. That's okay though. He must have paid $350.00 more than he was gonna bid because of me. I finally got bored.
