Franklin Proof Question

I have a 1961 gem proof that I would like to know what points to look for to tell if the strike is strong. I can see no hairlines under 10x magnification. The "Pass and Stow" shows up well on the bell. With these characteristics what is a likely grade. Sorry, but I can't post a pic yet. Thanks!

Sounds like a nice Frankie, but can't help you too much without an image.

You are looking in the right places. Also look at the bell lines.

Strike is really not critical on a 61 proof. I've never seen one that I would call weak nor one that wasn't strong.

  • I would think that on most coins you would not see hairlines under 10x magnification. Try using a halogen light and no magnification...tilt and twirl the coin in the light at different angles. If still no hairlines and not spots you probably have a PR68.
