What coin(s) are you saving up to buy?

What do you want badly? Is it a certain date/mintmark or is it even more specifically ONE particular coin that you can't live without?

Jason - You always shoot high!

I've been having fun building the gold part of my type set and got struck with inspiration the other day. Given all the advent of the St Gaudens coins in 1907, I thought it would be fun to build a 1907 date set across all denominations. I don't have any Barbers yet in my type set, and the 1907s are generic dates that won't set me back much. When I'm done, it will be a cool group of MS64+ CNS and MS63+ gold. The high reliefs will set me back, but I'll figure that out later.

Specifically, I will be looking to pick up MS63 1907 $10 Indian and MS63-64 $20 Liberty (PL if I can find one).

Money for my next coin is going to a trip to New Zealand next year. I am participating in an Eco-Challenge for my company (not the big Eco-Challenge that Marc Burnett puts on).

I will be bringing my family with me, This should just about take care of any purchases for me for about 6 months.

While I was saving, the price of an AU 1916 SL Quarter just passed me by. I guess I'll have to wait for a little price correction before buying.

  • My goal is to buy 2 coins for my type set next year. I have enough money for 1 of them, maybe even both image

I'd like a type 1 trime in MS 64. However I want one that is proof like with frosty devices. I'd also like an 1866 nickel with rays.

... After a year of upgrading my SLQ set (s) and missing out on the last one I needed by a mere $250.00 at a Heritage Auction last September, I'm not buying another blessed thing until a really well struck
1927-S in MS-64 to MS-66 becomes available again.

Hi Mike Hayes. A 1927-S SLQ would be nice. Then I also need a 1916. They are both too expensive for me now. I'd have to save for years.

1893-O Morgan. Not cheap in any grade. I'm not sure how long I will save to get how nice a piece.
    I collect circulated U.S. silver
  • With the savings pot emptied to get the 1912-S Liberty Nickel that the Post office is hiding from me right now, the long term savings fund will now start to build toward getting enough to make a run at a Proof 1877 Three Cent Nickel. Short term savings will be directed at the last three Lib Nicks I need to finish the Nickel set.

I am saving to buy a coin but I won't know which coin that is until it smacks me in the face at the March ANA show in Portland....

    ...that's how it usually works.
  • Three coins; 1918/7 S, 1916, and 1927-S SLQs in AU or better. I know I can never afford a FH coin, but head detail is important. So I'll be looking for a while, but saving even longer...

  • Draped bust large cent for my Dansco US type album.Hopefully a solid XF piece. It will be my most expensive purchase by far so I am enjoying studying up for it.Joined EAC (something I have always wanted to do) and just ordered the Superior Robinson Brown auction catalog which I understand is a great reference on the subject.
That large cent row in the Dansco is not going to be cheap to fill!

I'm currently saving up for an 1893s Morgan Dollar in VF-XF. It's the last one I need to finish my circulation-strike set. I'm also saving up for an 1877 Indian Head Cent in VF-XF.

Maybe a nice 1903-S Morgan in mint state since they seem to be easier to find than a nice AU.

I have one in mind, but am not posting openly for fear of biddin competition.

You folks commenting on the 16 SLQ, you best not wait around for a price correction, cause it inst going to be corrected downward, its going farther up in the short term. I predict another 25% price increse on the 16 SLQ in next 6 months. I would like to have upgraded mine, but prices are still tradin way way over sheet levelsl, even after the monster jumps. Not only that, but there are several un appealing 16 SLQ floating around, but are still managing to sell at super high prices!

I know of two mintstate 16's that were just sold to a dealer for 3k over sheet levels! (one was a 63 the other a 65)
