Interesting clip from "The Velvet Tray" DHRC newsletter

Van Simmons says that "E-Bay recently released a statement warning that up to 85% of the autograph items listed on their site may not be authentic". It kind of makes you wonder what the E-Bay coin market would be like without reputable grading companies

Anybody care to venture a guess how many phoney coins (ie, doctored, counterfeit, altered, or not what they say it is) are on the Bay of Eye?
Ah yes, I received one of those by post the other day. Snedly, my man servant, accidentally spilled Grey Poupon on it.
"Bad Snedly!" I said, putting just a dash of caviar on toast, and eating it very daintily--quite satisfied with myself indeed.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

But of course, my dear Kranky. I am a man of breeding.
Not to hijack one's thread though. Sorry, BigE. It's just that mention of The Velvet Tray sends me on such flights of fancy. Sigh.
