Rare PCGS slab - question on it's scarcity and possible info for you cherrypickers

Well guys, I don't think this type of PCGS slab has been brought up before on the message boards. It is listed in Conder101's book and the theory behind the piece and the strange foam ring, is that PCGS ran out for a short time (1986-1989) of the cent size slab shells and used a foam ring to hold the coins in placev while more were made. Conder101 has said in his book he has seen only a several of them. I have only seen one other myself which houses a proof pattern cent owned (at least used to) by Rick Kay.

Has anyone else seen this type of slab with the foam ring? Any other denominations than the cent? If it is as rare as I think it is, the combined surviving slab population (not th coin inside) could be under 10! This slab type would be ranked as a 1804 dollar of coin colelcting. Before you laugh, think about it. Who knows what other dealer may have one laying around like this. Even if it is a junk slab you could cherrypick it. Keep those eyes open!

Fortunately, my cents were circulated as I always worried that the foam was not inert.
The value depends upon the coin inside, but I would easily pay 30-50% over the coin value (depending how expensive it is).

Also, I have seen one with what looked like small half-circles cut out of the foam, as to make the edge viewable I guess?

Wierd. Never heard of that. Thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye open for that and if you ever get a pic I would love to see it.
