I HATE PAY PAL IT STINKS

It takes to long, and you have to remember the password. I must have 50 passwords between work, and this hobby of mine. Let me do it the old way. A check is so easy.

Yah, it's a lot easier to write a check, record the check in the registry, put the check in an envelope, address the envelope, go find the stamps, put a stamp on the envelope, mail it, wait 2-4 days for payment to get there, wait 10 business days for the check to clear, then wait another 2-4 days for the coin to get back.

As an alternative, if one hates paypal, and doesn't want to write a check, they can always go to the post office, wait in line, buy a money order for cost plus 90 cents, fill out the seller's address on both the money order and stub, print out the auction or write a letter referencing the auction number and description, address the envelope, stamp it for another 37 cents, and mail it.

or if one doesn't hate paypal, they can click a few buttons and be done with it.

Baley - You don't know how many hundreds of times I have done just that!!

  • Yeah......but at least with a check (or Money Order) you can't have your entire balance of cash stolen by the likes of PoopPal. My $3,000+ robbery (they called it payment "reversals") amounts to the same thing. The notice by them that "You've got cash" is only good for as long as they SAY it is!

As i once relayed in depth here and on other sites, i got the shaft a few years ago because a payer to my account wasn't delivering on HIS end. His direct PoopPal balances into my account (NOT chargebacks thru a credit card) were reversed back and i netted an actual $1,800+ loss as i had already spent about $1,200 of "my" dough for ebay purchases.

......imagine........they wanted the $1,200 back! Funny they never pursued it 'cept for a one time request.........and FREEZING MY ACCOUNT! Wasn't necessary, really..........no way i'd ever trust that crap hole of a bank wannabe again!

........several class action lawsuits currently in the works, and for an eyeopening log onto www.google.com , type in "paypal complaints", and at last count a few months ago was up to 60,000 of so!

At the time of my "experience" with them a few years ago the number was about half of that. They've been BUSY!!!!!!!!

edited to add: ......just checked google and the number of paypal complaints was up to 65,500............they must be working overtime to boost the year end window dressing financial picture!

.......... "what's in YOUR wallet?" ......better check!!!!

Joe has a point. However, Paypal is not a bank so don't treat it as such. It is a "middle man" company. Do not leave money in your paypal account. As soon as you get money in the account, either transfer it to your actual bank account (for free) or withdraw it physically at an atm if you have the Paypal card and deposit it into your bank. If used properly Paypal can be an excellent asset. If used incorrectly, Paypal can suck.
  • I've been using PayPal for years without a single problem. Paypal has rules that must be followed or accounts can be frozen. I know they are really tough on MLMs
I only bid on auctions that accept PayPal or my credit cards as it's very easy for me to pay that way. When I sell I accept Paypal and money orders. I don't accept personal checks for my auctions because if the check bounces you're out that amount plus bank fees. I have paid with my personal check (thats easy for me too!) and would accept checks from board members I've dealt with before.
Another nice thing about Paypal is I can add funds every week meant only for coin purchases. I know exactly how much I can spend on coins at a glance.
  • Never have had a problem with Paypal. My only issue was when I
was selling off some very inexpensive coins; when you are making
only $1 per coin, the ebay and the paypal fees together make it a
losing proposition. At that point, you prefer people sending a check.
However, I really like seeing next day payments when I sell something.

    Paypal fees?

As a seller do not accept payment via Paypal funded from a credit card (only accept from Paypal balance, bank account transfer or Echeck) and your Paypal fees will be ZERO! Do the standard 3-4 day money transfer when moving money from your Paypal balance to your bank account - FREE! No sense in giving away your hard earned money when ya don't have to.

That's not true. I am a Premier member and am charged credit card fees even if you pay with a cash balance! Crazy but true. AND even if that were not the case, I'd still accept credit card payments through Paypal as I believe I have more bidders that way. I also know if I accepted personal checks I'd have more bidders. Just not worth the risk to me. I'd don't mind fees, I'm just adverse to risk.
  • CladiatorCladiator Posts: 18,256 ✭✭✭✭✭
Once you upgrade your Paypal account to be able to accept credit cards you will be charged the fees, you're right. However, if you do not upgrade your account to premier and you keep it so that you can not take credit cards you will get no fees. I used to be a premeir member and was getting nailed with fees. I simply closed that account and made a new account with Paypal...this time I did not go premier and I get no fees image

As for getting more bids cause you take credit cards...you probably do...but you profit less cause of fees. That part comes down to a personal decision we all make, just like you don't take checks even though you know you lose bids.

Myself..I'd rather lose a bid or two than give someone else my money.

I'm not saying your way or my way is better. Just stating the facts. Do you accept checks? Ever been burned? I really don't mind the Ebay and Paypal fees. They provide a service I find beneficial.
  • As far as remembering passwords, don't know what browser your using but netscape 7 has a password
manager that remembers your login every time you go to a site that requires it,and auto logs you in.
IE likely does too,and there are also 3rd party stand alone password managers.
Only thing about that is that at some point in time the browser is bound to get corrupted,so you gotta
back up your passwords - which you should do anyways.
Paypal ? I think its great so far. I wouldn't advise keeping much more than a few $$$ in the account just
to be on the safe side.
Sure they are money grubbing SOB's but who ain't ?

  • Yep, the fees(only by means of credit card payment) suck! That's the only problem I've yet to encounter with paypal; otherwise, they're a damn good ways and means to render payment to vendors...Zippity ZIP....DONE!......image

Yeah. 5 days for it to get to you. 10 days or more to clear the bank. No way is it easy. paypal is much faster and I would rather get that then a check. If you can't remember your password, how can you remember your checking account number which is even longer?

I've read the entire thread in an attempt to learn something. Everyone on either side has made good, valid points.I am only 4 months into this sort of thing but have this to share with all of you. I opened a personal account. Some people want to pay with credit cards to protect themselves. I know I would, however this can be dangerous as an earlier member so aptly pointed out. Suppose the buyer puts the purchase in dispute yet you have already spent this money on another transaction? T r o u b l e ! As I was saying, I specifically had written in my items' descriptions that I do not accept credit card payment! 1) Business slowed considerably 2) People STILL insisted on paying with credit cards and I had to deny payment so many times until I finally said to heck with it all and opened a Premier Business account! Now I don't like giving away my money either and I'm not pro paypal nor am I anti-paypal...they provide a service to me and therefore, in my humble opinion, deserve their percentage. My businesses transactions are at my fingertips and I don't have to bother with it nor do I have to hire someone to do it that COULD skim off the top! I have yet to try to use the debit card to withdraw money although I have used it for Business purposes ,such as paying postageand buying supplies-paying credit cards and other business related things with the card. So...I REALLY have nothing bad to say-however I have NEVER used an ATM ...I just never had to-that's all! But if I went to an ATM machine today...tell me, could I withdraw all my money? That's what I would like to know! Could I withdraw Thousands of Dollars at an ATM with my Pay pal Premier Business Account debit card! Thank you for hearing me out-Can someone now help me out with an answer?
  • relayerrelayer Posts: 10,570

Go to your PayPal "My Account" page and you'll see a link next to your balance called "View Limits". Click on that to see what your withdrawl limits are. Most likely the ATM limit is $400. You can probably get that increased by contacting them. They charge $1 to withdraw by ATM.

image Note the time...In the few minutes it took me to write my post two transactions have already come thru Paypal, one for $175 and the other for $590.00 !! Now how can I complain about that? I didn't have to print an invoice nor did I have to send one!

There are limits. My account is $400 a day also for withdrawls. it protects you in case someone stole your card and knows your pin #.

This is a significant point that many sellers don't get about PayPal -- it can increase the speed of your money. The faster one can bring money in, the faster one can purchase more inventory, and the faster you can offer it for sale. Ergo, more profit. If you're doing ten day holds on checks, adding in mail time, you're looking at nearly three weeks from when an auction ends to when you actually "get" the money. Ten minutes vs. three weeks -- I know which one I'd prefer.
