Will Silver ever hit that 15/1 ratio against gold!

It stand I believe at 75/1 at present...does anyone feel it will reach 15/1 again?

I'd certainly trade in 15 junk silver dollars for a double eagle.

When the real energy crisis hits a few years from now, then I think the ratio may come back down to 20:1 or so. The reason is that silver has many potential uses in energy:

    1. It is the most reflective metal (mirrors and solar furnaces).
    2. It is the most photo sensitive metal (film, solar cells).
    3. It has the highest electrical conductivity of any metal (superconductors, batteries).
    4. It has the highest thermal conductivity of any metal (heat exchangers).

Plus it is a very effective and safe biocide (kills germs, mold, etc. on contact, but is basically harmless to humans).

Gold is radioactive and causes cancer...I knew a jewelry maker once who died from the longed exposure to it. Would be nice to see silver come back and give gold a good run.

We need to come out with those fuilcells quickly...the sooner we put the Arabians in their place the better off we all will be....down with Saudi Oil and up with FuelCells. Bush wants to find the answer to 9/11 stop kissing Saudi Arabias Butt and put the blame where it lies. Saudia Arabia has to be paid in gold you know for any trades in oil...Lets see now...they have all the oil and I bet 2/3's of the world gold....anyone know the figures?

Whaaa??? You have a source to back that up?

As far as I know, even if you tried to purposely make gold radioactive, most gold isotopes have a very short half-life.

I did not say it was going to burn you to death...but over time working with it...heating it and melting it yes it is toxic to the human.

You mean that little tidbit about "A radioactive isotope of gold, gold-198, is used for treating cancer"?

If I had to guess (which I do because I'm too lazy to research it image) I'd guess that one of the reasons they use Gold-198 for that purpose is specifically because it DOES have a short half-life, so you don't have any lingering radiation in your body after a few days.

And I'd guess the reason they use a gold isotope (instead of another metal) is not because gold is expensive and pretty, but because it's non-toxic, and one of the safer metals you can put into your body.

    Got another source?

Not that it matters to me personally, I collect clad coins. image

My understanding is that the Far East countries hoard alot of the world's gold - such as China and Japan. Even India is a prime hoarder. I have never heard Saudi Arabia being mentioned as a rival to them.

Wonder why they make all the top end electrical connectors with gold plating if silver is more conductive. Perhaps they figure people will not buy it if its not gold.

    not likely.

The reason that electrical conductors are plated with gold is due to its properties. Gold resists almost all corrosion in almost all environments. Silver does not.

20:1 or 30:1 seems like a reasonable gold to silver ratio. For what it's worth, there is less silver available right now than gold. It would take less than a Trillion dollars to buy up all the excess silver at even $10/oz. The US has been selling off or minting from its silver stockpiles since the 1940's. It is finally 100% depleted. The US is now a buyer on the open market. Silver stockpiles are very thin and production takes 1-3 years to get moving again. The whole situation is like a powder keg waiting to go off. When it does light off, expect silver to outperform gold at some point due to the extra leverage potential it has.

roadrunner, when it starts there will be a big smile on my face...can not wait. Three years to get going and then it takes time so I guess we are talking maybe 6 years of a good thing....need some good silve stocks to invest in...you got any good ideas?

dlimb2, I cannot off hand name any silver stocks but you can certainly delve into those on the hard asset web sites. Each of us has to do our own due diligence before jumping in. There are any number of decent unhedged mining companies that are 2/3 of any basic gold stock fund you can name, but the silver stocks don't get as much press.

roadrunner. do you think it would be better to hold silver eagles or play the silver stocks...which is better... I have never gone through a time like this and I am debating which way to go...I am buying hard silver and would like the stocks too, that is if they would be a good play.

that 15:1 ratio wasn't really based on anything other than the government wanting to have control. now it seems the ratio is more a function of demand and not even supply. consider platinum as what, 100 times rarer than gold and palladium as even rarer than that, yet the prices aren't consistent at those same ratios.

Silver (like tin/lead solders) will form dendrites when exposed to the elements. Gold does not.

100% correct. When people realize the manipulation that has taken place in the silver market, demand will rise and silver will hit heights few can imagine. Forget about the gold rush.....all that glitters is silver! 10:1 ratio before the end of the decade. I'm buying until silver goes over $12.00 an ounce.

I remember seeing goldfinger and gold bullets caused cancer and quick death (or was that the man with the golden gun)?

oh back to your question - yes sometime, but I may not live to see it.

"Will Silver ever hit that 15/1 ratio against gold!"

As gold is fully demonitized over the next century, you are likely to see its price drop towards its historical ratio with silver. So, it will not be so much a matter of silver "hitting" the ratio as gold dropping back.
