I am curious what percentage of people who post on this forum have ever bought from Littleton - even if only once and never any of their approval stuff)
Not that they are GOOD or BAD for the coin industry - but they are successful PROMOTERS most can agree
The likes that can only be compared with to PCGS and NGC in my opinion

Their gross overpricing and gouging of the general public serves as a greedy and immoral way to introduce one to the hobby. This , in conjunction with the deceptive small print targeted at youth with the approval service is bad for the hobby.
I cannot understand how greed of this magnitude can be defended just because of the high price of advertising in the main stream media.
In my opinion, it is the honest Joe dealer and the ANA who do the most good for the hobby in conjunction with forums like this as well as the Boy Scouts and other outlets, who donate to YN causes etc. My local coins clubs and I donate time, educational material, and other YN contributions and raffles and freebies, that serve as a better catalyst for new members to the hobby. This forum is another great example of the positive forces that are introducing new members to the hobby. Littleton will never be anything but evil in my eyes, since they took advantage of me as a child.

The first thing I got, which I still have, is a set that they still sell- Two Silver Classics. It's a circ merc and walker from the 1940s. I think I paid about $5 because I was a new customer.
Then, a little while after, there was some other deal they had. Since I wasn't a new customer, my grandparents fell in love with coins (
Because I was really cheap (I have never been one to immediately spend even $30... only recently did I start buying $50+ coins, and two $100+ coins) I never bought from them. I got lots of catalogs, but I just looked at the pictures and fell more in love with coins. I got a few books, and went elsewhere for my coins. For a while, just my local dealer. On occasion, I'd see another dealer, and then finally came the internet.
So yes, Littleton, when I was in third grade, got me into coins. But I never spent real money with them, because back then, $5 or $10 was real money.

I do too! I hope you don't mind me borrowing it for a couple of more days. Some troll in the open forum started using the one I uploaded last month and I didn't want to be confused with him
I've got one of Smokey ready for upload day...

When I sold my other bullion coins I got back about 30% of what I spent- but I learned my lesson!
Silver American Eagles ROCK
I bought some silver Eagles when I first got interested in coins. Buying from them at the time was not big deal. I was happy. I probably wouldn't buy anything from them now.
just like the TV home shopping . Iget a kick out of those offers and prices. But I like coins so much that I watch anyway.
I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.
Always looking for nice type coins
