have you ever bought from Littleton? (even if only once and never any approval stuff)

I am curious what percentage of people who post on this forum have ever bought from Littleton - even if only once and never any of their approval stuff)

Not that they are GOOD or BAD for the coin industry - but they are successful PROMOTERS most can agree

The likes that can only be compared with to PCGS and NGC in my opinion

I was a victim of their approval scams as a young child. Even after numerous attempts at stopping the approval service, they kept sending it several more times, until my grandfather interveened.
Their gross overpricing and gouging of the general public serves as a greedy and immoral way to introduce one to the hobby. This , in conjunction with the deceptive small print targeted at youth with the approval service is bad for the hobby.
I cannot understand how greed of this magnitude can be defended just because of the high price of advertising in the main stream media.
In my opinion, it is the honest Joe dealer and the ANA who do the most good for the hobby in conjunction with forums like this as well as the Boy Scouts and other outlets, who donate to YN causes etc. My local coins clubs and I donate time, educational material, and other YN contributions and raffles and freebies, that serve as a better catalyst for new members to the hobby. This forum is another great example of the positive forces that are introducing new members to the hobby. Littleton will never be anything but evil in my eyes, since they took advantage of me as a child.

What he said...I was awestruck by the coins they sent me as a kid, because I'd never seen some of them. I remember wanting to keep some of the coins they sent me so bad, but I just couldn't afford them. The ones I did, I paid 10 times what they were worth. One thing to do that to someone of age, a totally different thing to do it to someone still in junior high.

Well, my instinct for being cheap really came in handy... I have bought from them... twice.

The first thing I got, which I still have, is a set that they still sell- Two Silver Classics. It's a circ merc and walker from the 1940s. I think I paid about $5 because I was a new customer.

Then, a little while after, there was some other deal they had. Since I wasn't a new customer, my grandparents fell in love with coins (image) and I got another set image

Because I was really cheap (I have never been one to immediately spend even $30... only recently did I start buying $50+ coins, and two $100+ coins) I never bought from them. I got lots of catalogs, but I just looked at the pictures and fell more in love with coins. I got a few books, and went elsewhere for my coins. For a while, just my local dealer. On occasion, I'd see another dealer, and then finally came the internet.

So yes, Littleton, when I was in third grade, got me into coins. But I never spent real money with them, because back then, $5 or $10 was real money.

I do too! I hope you don't mind me borrowing it for a couple of more days. Some troll in the open forum started using the one I uploaded last month and I didn't want to be confused with him image
I've got one of Smokey ready for upload day...

I bought 11 coins from Littleton- all silver bullion coins. Then I realized how much I was spending vs. actual value. I also realized that I wanted to focus on my beloved Silver Eagles.

When I sold my other bullion coins I got back about 30% of what I spent- but I learned my lesson!

I bought some stamps from them as a kid, but my dad would always send the approval junk back, eventually, they quit sending it. Every now and then, I can find some silver war nicks in the junk bin at the local coin shop.....still in the Littleton cello too. I usually get them for about 20c each. Of course they are mostly overgraded and well circ'd coins, but it's still silver.

I bought some silver Eagles when I first got interested in coins. Buying from them at the time was not big deal. I was happy. I probably wouldn't buy anything from them now.

They have good first time leader offer ads. Than after that you realize that they are over priced.
just like the TV home shopping . Iget a kick out of those offers and prices. But I like coins so much that I watch anyway.

they have really nice albums but as far as there coins go I don't buy anymore. if they don't have a coin you order the still keep your money and send you a credit for another coin in there store and I don't like that way of doing things.

Yes I bought darkside material from them on approval for a couple years. Some was over priced and on some I got some decent deals.
