There are some way STUPID people out there!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I think and HOPE "thisisnotaproofset" has just created the name to "play" the seller and has no intention of buying the set. What a crock!!!
Its a foul ball by a fair margin.

Geez, this thief is just too friggin' obvious. Check his feedback and look at the coins he bought from "coin_carolina".

    thisisnotaproofset gets it for $6600image

Russ---I noticed the '36 half and penny bought from carolina, I was looking at previous feedback, he's been a buyin' fool lately. Ebay NEEDS to be indicted for an obscure Fereral Violation of some kind. Wished I could make a new law, they all too often perpetrate fraud---and buyer beware---HOGWASH!!!
Its a foul ball by a fair margin.

There is another way to kill his auctions. Just get two ebayers that we know to bid up to a billion dollars on each of his auctions that are fraudalent!

    Then ebay will take notice.

    Who will volunteer with me?

Need to rotate ebayers on these.

The 1939 "Proof" set went for $1,200 ---> HERE

The quarter in the 39 set is not even a BU. It's an AU.

If those coins were not misrepresented as proofs, would they be pretty good MS coins?

I can think of a dozen reasons not to have high capacity magazines, but it's the reasons I haven't thought about that I need them.

Wish I had $6600 to pi$$ away--Has anyone calculated what all five coins cost in MS63? An authentic 1936 proof set goes for around 5k.

Got tired of waiting so I looked them up--about $200 to $250 in MS63-64 plus what--$10 for the holder? Not a bad profit!!

I had also looked at all of his feedback earlier today. Something else I noticed (kinda picky, but just an observation)- In his "about me" page, he says he is disabled, was a chef for 20 years, has 7 kids and 2 grandkids. Now look at his hands in the pics - they just don't look like they've been through all that image

WOW the tribute set is already at $102 and there are six days left!

This set is "limited to 1,009 commemorative pieces worldwide" so you better hurry and get this one!!!

After a certain dollar amount (I think it's $5,000.00?) you have to sort of pre-qualify for the bid via a CC w/ eBay.

Does anyone happen to know what happened when thisisnotaproofset informed the seller that he would not be paying for the "proof set?" Just curious.

I know someone who emailed most of the bidders on the1936 and 1939 sets. One of the high bidders indicated that the seller had contacted him and said the sets would not be sold and not to send any payment, etc .image The seller apparently figured out that he'd been nailed.image

It is, in fact, a very good thing that Ebay is not liable for fraud within it's auctions. If it were, every scumbag lawyer in the country would be circling the auctions like a buzzard, just waiting for an undotted "I" or uncrossed "T". Soon, the lawyers would do to Ebay what they've done to healthcare. They'd turn a fairly operable, inexpensive system into a complete trainwreck and profit richly from it's demise.

So, unless you want Ebay's fees to go up 100-fold to support ambulance-chasing lawyers, you should be glad that they're (so far) immune to legal action.

I'd like to clarify that I'm not suggesting ALL lawyers are scumbags, only the type that would chase an undotted "I" in an Ebay auction.

Baccaruda, do your comments pertain to the criticisms of the seller who listed the "Proof sets" that are being discussed in this thread? Or, are you changing the subject to other sellers who are unfairly criticized? Please clarify - thanks.

    Mark -

I'm talking about fraud liability in general on Ebay. While this seller may be a scumbag, or simply uninformed, making Ebay liable for fraud perpetrated on it's site is a losing situation for everyone. Fraud seems black-and-white on this board when it concerns coins. In the legal arena there's no such thing as black-and-white, lawyers have found that "gray" is the most profitable color in the legal rainbow. As soon as you open Ebay up to liability, every auction becomes potentially expensive - the number of suits would be astronomical.
