Remember that fake "GSA" Morgan that sold for $405.29 on Ebay?...well, read this!

SeattleSlammerSeattleSlammer Posts: 10,122 ✭✭✭✭✭
Like many of you, I was pretty annoyed at the seller's lack of ethics, so I thought I would share our lively e-mail debate.....THIS GUY IS A REAL PIECE OF WORK (among other things....)! Be sure to read the whole thing, it's quite entertaining. BEWARE Stockbidder2 (Harry Davis) on Ebay!

=11979&item=2203776485">Fake GSA in question

AFTER MY INITIAL MESSAGE CALLING HIM ON HIS UNETHICAL WAYS, HE WROTE THIS TO ME:

my professional opinion as a lawyer of 20 years and a former assistant
state attorney in palm beach co, fl that prosecuted frauds, among
others, is that there is ample information provided in the auction
description for any person performing due diligence to fully comprehend
the whole of the auction.

what many of you are doing is nothing but hair splitting. how much info
is enough? you & i understood what was being auctioned. you & i were not
mislead. why? because the seller provided enough information for you to
understand what you would be getting had you won that auction. why do
you assume that folks willing to spend $400.+ don't understand? are you
the brightest crayon in the box? or, do you wish you could make a
killing selling copies and this is petty jealousy? i spent an hour the
other nite researching a digital camera purchase. too much time? not
enough? sellers can not anticipate every potential question. so, when is
enough info, enuff?

TO WHICH I REPLIED:

Harry, certainly you being a lawyer explains a lot, and yet your logic is so obviously unsound for someone with such a history. It makes me fear for your clients. Indeed, it is laughable that you assume your experiences in law make you exempt from its ethics.

You ask, "...do you wish you could make a killing selling copies and this is petty jealousy?"

So you admit that these are COPIES and that your lengthy description to "educate" the bidders is nothing more than a bunch of crap to disguise the fact that they're buying a $25 piece of merchandise. No, Harry, I do NOT want to "make a killing" selling copies to unsuspecting buyers. That is for you to do, Harry, along with the other Ebay fraud artists.

It is true that many would-be buyers don't research as much as they should--but under your logic, that makes it OKAY to screw them due to their lack of "due diligence."

You are a loser, Harry. And as I wrote before, what goes around....

Cheers, A**hole.

TO WHICH HE REPLIED:

I have read your about me page and who are you trying to fool. If you are trying to help people then why don't you just give them the NCM phone number and let the bidders get the product for the best price. You see you aren't any better than anyone else. To prove that you are no better is the obvious indications that you have sold a number of 1995 fake coins for $200.00 and more and listed private auctions. It is obvious that you are just trying to get rid of a competitor to reap the fields. So please don't continue your stupidity or you may find yourself in hot water for slander (1. Law Oral communication of false statements injurious to a person's reputation.
2. A false and malicious statement or report about someone. . Just my advice, you can take it or leave it. You are just splitting hairs. You are doing the same thing. Your language also displays the rudimentary elements that compose you.

Good Afternoon,
HarryDavis

TO WHICH I REPLIED:

Harry, I have no idea who you have me confused with. But my ebay handle is eyecatchingcoins, you are welcome to look at my feedback profile. I have only sold three or four coins in the last four years on Ebay--mostly I just collect. What the hell are you talking about "1995 fake coins for $200"????? I buy cameo and toned Morgans, and sometimes a PQ toned 18th Century type coin.

Huh? You were not looking at my feedback profile you Putz. Sheesh, talk about just proving my point. You are such an idiot!

So, NO, I am not trying to get rid of a competitor, as you so eloquently have written. Just out of curiosity, who's profile were you looking at? It certainly wasn't mine.

"Your language also displays the rudimentary elements that compose you."--you wrote. Nice grammar, Harry, way to prove your mastery of the English language.

I can waste no more time on you, Harry. But thank you for proving my point again and again, I will look forward to posting your comments on the PCGS forums and sharing them with the rest of the forum members...should be good for some laughs!

Cheers

Hoo Boy!!! This thread is a great read. I wonder if the Palm Beach atty wears one of those ice cream suits with the alligator shoes. I can't comment on the facts because I really haven't spent the time to study them, but, one would think that an attorney who sells coin stuff on EBay would comprehend a little better that this forum has a lot of really on-the-ball people and maybe want to do a better job of public relations.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

    You are sooooo right Russ!

I have checked some records on Mr. Davis. There is no record for a Florida attorney named Harry Davis in Mentor, Ohio. Matter of fact, there are only 2 men named Harry Davis in the State Bar of Florida records. One is a Chevron attorney in Atlanta and the other is in Alaska. They are probably not "our" Harry Davis.

I called the State Bar of Florida and inquired as to whether a "Harry Davis" had ever been active or had been disbarred. The only 2 records they indicated were the ones that I mentioned.

Which means 1 of 2 things -- either Mr. Davis isn't a lawyer from Florida or that's not his real name.

Unless you believe our "Harry Davis" lives in Atlanta or Alaska and routes his auctions through Mentor, Ohio.

My feeling -- he isn't a lawyer nor has he ever been. That was just a scare tatic.

While not defending him, I am defending lawyers. The comments some of the Board members made about Mr. Davis being a lawyer is surprising. Not all of us are scumbags and to give any credence to his statement claiming he is a lawyer is ridiculous.

It's amazing that some of you believe anything this guy says in light of his other statements and his auction!

I looked a little more at what this guy buys on Ebay --

For a lawyer he should know that most states consider this item illegal --

    Brass Nuckles

And he seems to be a survivalist --

    Hunting Knife

    Hmmmm....interesting.

Maybe not a survivalist! He's probably selling these items to unsuspecting children on the street if he's as desperate for money as he appears to be.

Frattlaw: I agree that neither you nor I are scumbags or the type of lawyers that the public loves to hate, but, I gave up defending lawyers as a general category years ago. It's like Sisyphus rolling the rock up the hill only to have it roll back down again. I think the best way to "defend lawyers" is to do exactly what (I think you do) and I do -- especially on this board; conduct yourself in an ethical, honorable and professional manner. We all share an abiding interest here in numismatics. What makes this board absolutely fascinating is that there are people from all walks of life on here and they each bring their own area of expertise, experience or professionalism to our shared interest in numismatics. We are all winners. Mr. Palm Beach White suit Alligator shoes- maybe lawyer-- he isn't.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of all and a plague of zinc cents upon my coin folders: Your outrage and anger is misdirected.

The seller is the smallest of problems here. His auction does clearly state:
"Composition: 100 Mil .999 Pure Silver Clad Base
    Weight: 1 ounce. avdp
    Diameter: 39mm Silver Dollar Size
    Condition: Individually Struck Proof
    Edition Limit: 2,250"

Misleading....perhaps if you don't read carefully. Caveat Emptor.

It'd be more useful to reign hellfire down on Ebay for not have a "reproduction" category. Given the choice between listing it as "exonumia, other" or "US Coins, Dollars", the seller will choose the one that makes sense to him/her and to buyers. If there were a "replica or reproduction" category, it would be obvious to even the most uneducated consumer that the item is not a US Mint product.

Or maybe, reign your fire down on the source of these so-called "coins": The National Collectors Mint.
    The National Collectors Mint.....coin reproductions
They're the ones making this crap. They're the ones producing all the misleading advertising that sellers cut & paste. If they weren't making this stuff, it wouldn't be possible to deceive others with it on ebay.

    Anyway, just my opinion.

Again, according to the State Bar of Florida -- there's no David Cook in Ohio either. There are 2 in Florida, but again I doubt if either one is selling copies on Ebay.

I actually went one further and called the State Attorney's Office for Palm Beach County and spoke to a very nice receptionist who has been there for 14 years and guess what..............

No one by the name of Harry Davis or David Cook has worked there since at least 1988.

WASHINGTON, D.C. Corp. ID Center, Tuesday, 8:55 AM — Today history is being made! National Collector's Mint announces the limited advance release of 2,250 1889 “CC” Morgan Silver Proofs heralding America’s rarest “CC” Morgan Silver Dollar, which was minted in Carson City, Nevada in 1889 and was struck with the famous “CC” mint mark.

Carson City Morgan Silver Dollars were minted from 1878 to 1885 and from 1889 to 1893. Less than 14 million were minted. Compare that to the 270.2 million Morgans melted by the government during World War I. Plus, an additional 50 million silver dollars were melted down during WWII. And how about the many millions more lost to the silver profiteers every time there’s been a run up in silver prices? That’s why the value of any surviving Morgans and especially those minted at Carson City has increased dramatically. In fact, a rare 1889 Carson City Morgan recently sold for $529,000!

Morgan Silver Dollars were the most popular form of “hard cash” accepted to settle debts in the Old West. Of course, Carson City Morgan Silver Dollars haven’t been minted in 109 years, nor will you find even one in general circulation.

    ADVANCE DISCOUNT PRICE

The issue’s price will be set at $35.00 for each proof. But, during this limited advance striking period, this .999 pure silver clad masterpiece can be yours for only $9.95. THIS MAY BE THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY YOU WILL EVER HAVE TO ACQUIRE THIS SILVER MASTERPIECE!

I am confused. Yesterday, forum member "Cointagious" made a reply to post from ljr1964 claiming to be a former State Attorney in Palm Beach. Today, SeattleSlammer makes a post with transcripts of letters he has received from "Harry Davis" aka Stockbidder2. Letters say he is a former State Attorney in Palm Beach.
