what do you think of this 15S Barber half

What is what do you thig of this old girl. I paid VF money for her because I don't beleive PCGS grade. What would you give her for a grade.

If PCGS called it a Barber quarter I'd be suprised. The coin looks like a half to me. As for grade, it looks like a VF but sort of flat looking, like it was water damaged or something.

Looks ok as a Fine-15 or so. Also as LanLord noted, looks like a half dollar.

Some Dates in the half series are found with a stronger LIBERTY. LIBERTY is the grading criteria, so it may have a complete LIBERTY but be lacking in overall detail relative to the grade. 1915 is just such a date. 1909 is the worst date in the half series and is almost always overgraded, the 1915 comes in second for overgrading in the VG-XF range. To grade VF the LIBERTY must be complete, but I also look at the reverse wing feather detail. For me it is not VF unless about 4/5 of the lines separating the wing feathers are present.

It is hard to see all the details, but I would guess that LIBERTY is complete technically making it a VF, but overall the detail is a bit shy of VF. A strong Fine in my opinion.

1915. Full LIBERTY, weaker details, F18 Notice how on the reverse the wing tips are nearly completely flat, but still has a complete LIBERTY?

1915 with reverse detail of VF LIBERTY complete, but reverse wing feather detail is beefier. Wing feather detail is much stronger, with only the tips of the wing feathers worn down.

This is what happens to you when collecting consumes you, you start grading the nitpickiest stupid things LOL

I used to collect these in F, VF, and XF and would definitely consider this a nice VF.

I'm sorry guys, but even on a good day that is not a VF.

Tyler is the expert on these puppies by date and I would agree with him.

I might be even harder and call it a F12.

I bet you a PCGS called it a 12 or a 15.

What ever happened to a full liberty being the requisite for FINE, not very fine...

I don't know the series by date, but that is a Fine to me. The amount of detail in the leaves, around the headband and on the reverse all look like F-12 or possibly F-15. If truly problem free it's a nice coin to have regardless of grade.

It appears to be very poorly struck(headband & Eagles wing tips). Grading it strictly from LIBERTY, I'd gradeit a F-12. But looking at the rims and denticles and taking strike into account, the rest of the coin looks EF.
