Would you consider this a sample slab?

I just got this in the mail and am considering adding it to the sample slabs on my website. The label does not have the word "sample" on it, but as far as I know, they were given out for free at the first day release ceremony to promote the quarter (and ANACS in a small way I think).

Was anyone at the ceremony and remember if these were free or not? Did everyone get one, or a select group of people?

they were free but you had to attend some meeting or something in a room.

I was going to go to the meeting just to get one for my son but wasn't interested in whatever it was about at the time.

Sounds like they were availabe for free as long as you went to a certain area. I will list it on my website as a sample and contact ANACS to see fi I can get mintage numbers for the slab. Thanks for all the help guys!

doesn't it need a grade or genuine or something to be a "sample" ??

Nope. ANACSonly slabs genuine coins, even for the samples and they are one of the services that has given out samples at shows with world coins without the word "sample" on the label. It makes my job harder in the long run.

I listed that piece in the book as a novelty slab. You will find it listed as ANACS 15N4. When the second edition comes out it will moved to a new catagory Advertising or Promotional slabs. The problem is it isn't intended to advertise ANACS, or to specificly show off a new or existing slab design. It is intended to be a give away used to advertise or promote the SHOW. There will be several slabs previously listed as either samples or novelties that will be transfered to this new catagory. Also similar items with be lumped together as a general type for the picture and then a listing of the different things it was used for. For example the Ohio State club used this same general design for the April 2002 Central States Show, the Sept 2002 Ohio State Show, the April 2003 Ohio State Show, and the Sept 2003 Ohio State Show with the only change being the show name and dates the show was running.

Oh and at the Ohio State shows they were given out freely to anyone that expressed and interest. I didn't have to attend any meeting or event etc to get mine.
