Okay, what do you guys think PCGS did with this Morgan when it was submitted?

I sold this one raw on eBay a while back. In the auction description I said I thought it graded MS64. The buyer submitted it to PCGS for grading. What do you think they graded it, if they graded it at all? BTW, it sold for less than $30.

The coin looks pretty nice to me. Attractive rose toning, and very clean surfaces. I'll say solid 66 .

I just submitted 5 raw ones I got from Russ on eBay a little while back. All but one went pretty low, there was a nice toner that was a little more.

Russ thought one of them was a good 64 also. We'll see what sort of luck I have.

You said it had a "shot" at hitting gem 65... The coin, as you observed, is devoid of any major hits and, in fact, has precious few minor ones. The only even small strike against it is that the reverse strike is a tinge weaker than ideal ...

For those who didn't read Bubblehead's response it looks like that coin was graded MS 65.

Russ, I guess you will not forget that pointed 9 dime! I sent it to NGC so it would say "pointed 9" on the label. So don't feel like you missed out on some wild profits or anything, I haven't sold it. Maybe it would go for a premium over a non pointed 9 dime which aren't so tough in that grade. It is a nice coin and will stay in my collection for a while.

I'm actually rather pleased that there are some cool coins out there being enjoyed by other collectors that came from me. That's part of the fun of the hobby!

To put it another way, we both have joy on that one. It was pulled from a set that I picked off for about $15 that also had a nice Accented Hair in it. So, I have a free cool coin for my collection, you have a cool coin for yours - and all from one set. A classic win-win!
