has any one else received this from ebay

Is it legit, also the same message for paypal came. this is the from line "eBay Customer Support" <customer@ebay.com>

Dear eBay Customer,

This is an important message you have to read immediately after you get it. In the past 3 months, hackers tried to steal our users accounts with trivial procedures and use them for fraud. We worked with the FBI to ensure that those evil persons were caught. Unfortunately, some of the information in our system was compromised. Because of that, all users must log in and check if nothing in their accounts was modified. With this occasion we will log all ip addresses when users log in to eBay and store them in a database. When an unknown ip address is trying to login into your account, we will know that it's not you, and start the legal procedures.
Please click this link to login to eBay. Please note that after you click this link, only the user and password and IP address will be logged, and you will be redirected to the main eBay page. If you want to use the services at eBay you have to login again from the home page.
Michael

When you sign up for eBay they inform you they will NEVER contact you in this method. Period. It is very simple for someone to copy a web page and give it a link. When you go there to login instead of eBay, they have your password and user id. Never use another link to login- EVER.
And everyone has already pointed out the childish language used.

It is a fraud. Do not click on any of the links. Forward e-mail to : Spoof@ebay.com

One of the main points to take away here, is the grammar and composition of the message that is sent out. Professional companies spend a significant amount of time, effort and money to get a message across. You generally won't see one that poorly written, unless it's from Joe-Bob moron trying to steal some account information.

I used to get them all the time.

Then I started answering them with an ID of "you're a scumbag" and a password of "you've just been reported to eBay".

I haven't gotten one in months now.

I believe that any email from either eBay or PayPal that does not address you BY NAME can be considered a fake. I don't believe they ever send "Dear Ebay (or PayPal) customer (user)" emails.

I sure would like to know what eBay and PayPal are doing to find and prosecute these scammers.

Why not, our illustrious C.E.O, C.C., the big mahoff, by the name of Geo. W. Bushwacker used it. "The AXIS of EVIL!"... image

It's an attempt at fraud. You can forward it to spoof@ebay.com.

Another dead giveaway (for those who know a little bit about computers and the internet) is that there is no way Ebay would limit any of their users to only accessing their accounts through one IP address.

Many people end up getting assigned dynamic IP addresses and do not keep the same one. Also, this would mean that users could only access their account from wherever they "verified" their information from...at least until their dynamic IP changed and then they are up the proverbial creek without a paddle and cannot access anything.

Needless to say, this won't ever happen.

Here is one that I just got:

    "Dear eBay Member,
During our regular update and verification of the accounts, we are unable to verify your current information. Either your information has changed or it is incomplete. If the account information is not updated to current information within 5 days then, your access to bid or buy on eBay will be restricted. Go to this link below to update your account information

What so ironic is it was sent to an ebay account that is "frozen"....by you guessed it, EBAY.

About 7 months ago I had my ebay password and my yahoo mail password stolen by somebody like this. Changed my ID and everything was fine until last month I got one of those fake emails pretending to be ebay and wanting me "to re-enter my information" I smelled a rat and forwarded it to ebay, they confirmed it was a fake. Ebay nevers sends emails asking for account info or password. Don't fall for it!:image
