ms64 or BU?

I was surfing ebay the other day and came by a auction for a ms64 1921 peace dollar and ask who graded it. the sell said he did. I replyed back with what grading service do you work for. he says I do work for a grading service. how close do you think these seller really are when call there raw BU coins MS6?.

It would depend on the seller. Grading is subjective. Some may overgrade or while others may grade conservatively. I don't think that there's anything wrong with a seller offering his or her opinion about the grade of a particular coin.
  • It would totally depend on the seller. Many consistently overgrade. Even among those who are qualified/honest/realistic, there can certainly be disagreement between graders, or with the same graders on different days.

Having said that, I personally wouldn't hold my breath expecting a raw eBay coin to come back slabbed at the grade you bought it for. I think would often be lower.

You don't have to work for a grading service to know how to grade a MS-64 peace dollar. Although the 1921's are a little harder, I would give him some slack and check feedback/return policies.
