I sent my first coin back to the US Mint - now they'll sell it to YOU

I got three uncirculated 1st Flight's $1 from a back order today. Two went to PCGS but one had a 1/8" scratch on the reverse so I sent it back for an exchange.

It's the first coin I ever returned to the Mint so I'll see how it goes.

How this affects you is that the Mint will mearly put my return back on the shelf and send it out again to another customer.

So when you think you are buying a new fresh coin from the mint, it may already have been picked over or even returned with scratches.

  • Sorry to hear about having to send a coin back. I consider myself lucky, I get to hand pick the nicest coins out of the hundreds they usually have in stock at the Denver Mint Shop.

This year I returned my first coins to the mint - a 2003 silver Proof set. The dime had a big finger print on it that was only going to get worse. It cost me about $3 to return it, but I did not want to sell something like that to a customer. image

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
