What is this idiot thinking? I know there are people who make their money on the shipping but this is ridiculous!

At least he was smart enough to open it at $4.99 PLUS put a reserve of $4.99.

For $13.50+ he should give the coin away and just charge shipping.

When I see high shipping, I ususally just subtract that from the
maximum amount I would want to bid. I will admit that this guy
IS a bit whacked, though.

I looked over the seller's previous coin auctions. They've charged $5.00-$6.50 + insurance.

Yes, this guy is way off base on this one, but for those of you who have not sent Registered packages in a while, I'll tell you this. For items worth $450 or more it will cost $10 or more to send it Registered Insured. First Class Insured does not help either. The cost cross over point between First Class Insured and Registered is in this area also.

Postal rates have really gone up. That's why you see the higher shipping costs.

Hmmh! Insurance really doesn't serve a purpose for the exception of looking good on the package. It's really a large rip-off by the U.S.P.S.. Just try to collect on a claim; experience the bull$hit you've got to go through...It's pathetic....

I emailed the seller and asked why the shipping charge was so high. This is the response I got.

this was an error in shipping..i was teaching someone to do listings and wasn't watching..sorry for the inconvenience..it will go at the average shipping rate...thanks for bringing this to my attention...

OK ... If the coin gets lost or stolen in the mail, who takes the hit? Are you willing to say as the buyer, I'll eat $450, or do you expect the seller to eat it?

One of the finest known 1873 cents with the doubled LIBERTY was lost in the mail. Would you like to be the one who had to eat the loss on that one? Yes, one can make one's self "insurance poor," but sometimes it makes sense to spend a little money on it.

Welp, it all boils down to weather or not you, as the seller, possess receipts to prove this item is what you say it's worth. I tried to claim on a couple of items and was "gunned down" by these prix$. I was only able to claim $50.00 on each item. It's in the best interest of both parties to render payment for said items using paypal, then you'll have a legit receipt. Still, there's the bull$hit with the seller having a receipt to show that he/she has paid that amount for the sold item...IT'S A FRIKIN' SCAM! Moreover, can one blame the U.S.P.S. for doing this...NO! Too many scammers trying to scam them. It's the way of the world1.....
