Where have all your coins been before?

That is, before you got them.
Were they handled by the mint and then directly to you? Were they in a bank for 75 years? Did some little old lady leave them in an estate and you bought them?

My older coins came from dealers. A few of them can be traced back to former owners and appearances as plate coins in some reference works. For most of them I have no idea where they have spent their existence.
This 1795 half dime does have an interesting history. I purchased it from a dealer who regularly travels to England to buy coins. Most of his acquisitions there are British pieces, but he does find an American coin now and then.
According to the story this piece was jingling among a group of similar vintage British coins that a little old lady brought to a coin shop in London. Of course in the British series, which dates back to Roman times, 1795 would almost be viewed as a “modern coin.” Perhaps if this piece had jingled among its mates a little less, it might have been graded mint state. As it is, it has been graded by PCGS as an AU-58.

So would I.
I'd give up a few coins too just to see the history of some of mine. But at least I have been keeping
a written history of my better stuff, where I bought the coin and from whom this dealer or
private collector acquired the coin. At least whoever acquires my stuff will have this reference point.
Just looking at some of my old circulated large cents makes me wonder where they have been.
