Distribute massive amounts of sample slabs at every show which would draw in all the newbies and attract new customers to the company since they are familiar with the slab and PCGS name.
Well..... If Carolj is as goodlookin as I've been told I would probably run off to the Bahamas with her for an extended vacation!!! And let Cameron fill in for me while I was gone!!!
Focus on coin grading business and coin auction business. Drop (or spin off) the stamp grading and comic book grading departments. Bring up CLCT stock value.
Hire several top notch programmers to re-engineer the business processes and the web sites and increase efficiency many times over. Then start a PR campaign to reconnect to disenfranchised slab afficianados. Then look at innovations beyond the slab into related things (numismatic related) that are complementary or related to their core business.
Make the employees treat me like the prez of the company.

My DNC, which I brought to HRH's attention was returned to me without his review, even after he told a certain person to pull it and hold it for his review. Now, either this person ain't to concerned with what the boss wants, OR, they intend to force me to pay for HRH to look at the coin. IMO, since PCGS cannot yet provide the so-called "expanded service for crossovers" SOMEONE should have at least made the effort to contact me and explain why HRH couldn't look at that coin for me.
Armchair quarterbacking alright. I would improve the turn around times without affecting the consistency of PCGS grading. I would hire, steal or borrow more world class graders to get the turn aroud times back to normal. It is inexcuseable that dealers are submtting to NGC instead of PCGS just for faster turn around times.
I would include a report card for each coin graded. Return a list of defects they see that warrants the grade given so there is an explanation why the submitter thinks it's a one grade but the grader thinks it's lower.
I can think of a dozen reasons not to have high capacity magazines, but it's the reasons I haven't thought about that I need them.
Stop manipulating the MS population on particular Morgans that for all intention purposes SHOULD be a grade higher, semi pl or dmpl...This pop. manipulation's KILLIN' ME...
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?

A registry of sample slabs. No ranking of the sets since grade dosen't matter, but just completeness. PCGS State Quarter registry and a PCGS sample slab registry requiring only of each label type. It could be done. I have to think it through more.
1) Improve turnaround time by refusing submissions of bullion coins, and, if necessary, any regular issue coins minted in the last 10 years.
2) Hire Q. David Bowers as a writer and researcher
3) Dissolve DHRC to remove the appearance of conflict of interest. "Top pops" could not be purchased and resold by the grading company founder.
4) Let his expert employees determine the grade and ignore "suggestions" he makes when he walks certain coins into the grading room.
5) Stop recommending that collectors sell off rarities that are below a certain grade. (His cavalier recommendations in the latest "Inside View" suggest selling off early half dimes in VF-20 or less, key date Seated or Barber Dimes in MS64 or PR64 or less and buying any Memorial Cents from 1959-1983 in MS66RD or better, for example). This makes him seem like a huckster of what his company can promote.
6) Read and post on rec.collecting.coins to receive unmoderated feedback.
"Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity" - Hanlon's Razor
Was that really David Halls advice? To sell key date Seated coins??
Wow that's great advice. Lets see I'll sell my 74-CC dime with a TOTAL Pop in all grades of 18 and buy: Lincoln Cents 66RD Pop: 9,419 67RD Pop: 6,640 68RD Pop: 2,816 69RD Pop: 167
I recognize that many of the comments made here were at least partially in jest. But, for those who are serious, I have a couple of comments:
First, I think we should all recognize that it is FAR EASIER to offer "suggestions" to run a company than it is to actually run the company.
Second, I think recommendation by DH regarding the selling of classical keys and buying select moderns is taken grossly out of context. (BTW, this doesn't mean I agree with his recommendation!) As I remember his recommendation, all he is saying is that classical keys are at the peak of a bubble. Selling them now is akin to selling high, which everyone wants to do. I don't remember specifically what he recommended us to buy, but his suggestions were those attractive moderns that are of a very high grade (but not pop-tops or finest knowns) that aren't garnering as much attention as the finest known specimens. If I read his words correctly, he believes that these undergrades are currently priced nowhere near the pinnacle of the price bubble. He believes that they have much room for growth. This is akin to buying low, which is yet another thing that everyone wants to do.
Of course, I don't know if I specifically agree with the details of his recommendations. But, in theory, what he's saying doesn't seem so bad.
1. Disassociate DHRC from PCGS. Keep DHRC only if you can somehow keep the two separate so there is no conflict of interest. 2. Improve turnaround time, but keep the prices the same. 3. Improve the quality of the holder so that it is more air tight and better sealed from the environment. 4. Decrease the size of the holder to the size originally used in 1986 (the smaller the better). 5. Allow grading of historically significant slabbed items, e.g., Goodacre Presentation Sacagawea in ICG slab, Morgans in GSA holders, etc., without touching the original packaging. 6. Fix the problem with the population reports. 7. Keep the pricing up-to-date and complete.

AMEN!
Order (er, well suggest ) the graders to give me 70's
My posts viewed
since 8/1/6
Also, I'd cover grades for crossovers- too many coins seem to be rejected when they merit a cross or upgrade.

2) Refuse to grade anymore state quarters until the turnaround times got better
3) Find some way to track the slabs so submitters could find out whose fingerprints are all over their coins.

Seriously, I would improve cutomer service.
Quit putting sliders in MS holders. (they never do it for me:frown
Reconsider attributing coins for an extra fee. They are supposed to be the experts. Why can't they attribute varieties.
How would that work?
