  My gut instinct.
  
  With sample slabs, there are no price sheets or online places to look up value. I see rarity, condition of the slab, label type and coin inside as major factors and then pay a price that I think I can easily sell it at with a slight mark-up. Sometimes they sell easy and sometimes not.

  My most immediate and convenient resource is my recollection of recent (or, if need be, older) transactions for such pieces. I typically back that up with my copies of the CCDN and CDN, as well as our computer records (cost, sale price, etc.) of the same or similar coins that we have handled. Next in line is auction archives.

  I grab the CDN as a price baseline, but more importantly, are my recollections on what pieces are trading for with similar quality.

  I use graysheet, bluesheet, redbook, CU (which is BAAAAAAAD) and numimedia (which is about outdated...IMO) and find a mean then BID.....

  What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?

  For pieces that don't trade often, I look at auction archives. Heritage is particularly helpful, since they often keep old pictrues of the coins, and you can get a feel for why the piece sold high/low.

  All of the above. There is never enough information available. Use it all to your benefit. For those times when you just aren't given the time to research it....go with your gut and what you brung with you.
