  • This link will tell you want your asking for. " OVD " means Overdate and " TOP 100 " means it`s one of the 100 most desirable VAM`s.

  • Thanks for that most excellent link. I bookmarked it for future reference. I looked for the overdate but I couldnt see it. Must take a trained eye eh?

From a typical picture, no.image Usually it`s tough for us middle age people like me to see it in hand without an aid of a eye piece. There are diagrams, which I don`t have, that show the highlights of a VAM, which are close - up(s). So no, typically you wouldn`t see it in a picture unless it`s a close - up picture. image
  • I have the coin in hand but all I have is a cheesy plastic magnifying glass. I lost my loupe when I moved a few months ago and need to replace it.

Maybe this will help. The left part of the '7' is sticking up from the '8'. It's called an 'EAR' type overdate, there are many 8/7 varities in 1880 counting all 4 mints (Philadelphia, SF, NO, and CC).

  • That picture sure helped and I think I can see that serif thing on the 8. I definitely need a better glass though.
