From a typical picture, no. Usually it`s tough for us middle age people like me to see it in hand without an aid of a eye piece. There are diagrams, which I don`t have, that show the highlights of a VAM, which are close - up(s). So no, typically you wouldn`t see it in a picture unless it`s a close - up picture.
Maybe this will help. The left part of the '7' is sticking up from the '8'. It's called an 'EAR' type overdate, there are many 8/7 varities in 1880 counting all 4 mints (Philadelphia, SF, NO, and CC).
