<< <i>Not all rental car companies accept debit cards...personal experience. >>
Until recently they had no choice. The merchant agreements from Visa and Mastercard stipulated that one had to accept a debit card with the logo if one also accepted the regular credit cards. This was passed through to merchants via the agreement with their processing services. So, if they did refuse, they were in violation of their agreement.
That just changed because the card companies settled a class action suit. However, the change doesn't techinically go in to effect until 01.04.04.
Brian..... I have bought and sold on Ebay for over 3 years, (no coin sales), and I have read all of the threads here regarding your problem.
Question... When you signed up with Ebay did you give the same contact info for your mailing address, that is on your Visa?
If not there in may lie your problem. Since you are new to Ebay I can assure you they will be very thorough when they check your info, because of the number of auctions, and the dollar amount envolved. If there is any discrepancy of any kind between your Visa, and contact info you gave them they will suspend you immediately, even if it's a gliche.
If you have called Ebay and they said someone from "Safeharbor" will be contacting you, then you should be able to clear up any discrepancy with Ebay, and they should reinstate your account, are have you reapply for a new account.
Again it has nothing to do with the card. I've contacted both eBay and my bank about that and both of them tell me that eBay has not even attempted to charge my card. Those fees, like I stated previously, were fees that were incurred for auctions that ended last week. They couldn't possibly bill me for them that fast anyway. Believe me, it has nothing to do with the card. When I find out the reason, you all will be the first to know. Thanks for the concern.
My guess is either an error on their part, or someone is screwing with you by reporting something to ebay (even if, and likely to be, made up). Competing auction, competing seller, disgruntled seller/ex-wife/girlfriend/etc).
I look forward to hearing this successfully and quickly resolved.
Good luck in getting it resolved. That is a lot of auctions to get cancelled on; plus as you said it will be harder to attract back the previous bidders.

Is it possiple that you recieved a spoof email from a non-ebay company claiming that they were ebay and requested your account information? If you replied, then someone else has your account info and may have deactived the account in some manner.
This is a easy one...... Happened to a buddy of mine......
1) You got a email from a scammer claiming to be ebay. 2) You gave them your account/password. 3) They immediately changed your password and ended all of your auctions. 4) They contact you and tell you that you're suspended... 5) You go on-line and see that you can't log in and see that all of your auctions are ended.
YOU NEED TO CANCELL YOUR CREDIT CARD RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you go into your ebay account, you can essentually remove any and all of your information from your acount. It's easy to make yourself non-existant just by making a few clicks. The scammer doesn't care about the account... he/she cares about prolonging the victim as long as possible into thinking they have their account "on hold" while they use your credit card....
In this case, a debit card has worked in the victum's favor as they will need to start running 9999 different passwords to try to access the account.....
Cherrypicker, you REALLY need to disable your credit card....
Sorry folks, I've been watching Ebay for some time and witnessing many sad tales including lost shipments, cancelled transactions, and terminated memberships.
While there have probably been millions of satisfactory deals on Ebay, the fact that these problems continue makes me less and less inclined to ever do business on Ebay.
Got ripped by an unscrupulous dealer as a Newbie. Don't intend to get ripped again because I'm not up on all the nuances of the Ebay trade.
Okay I appreciate all the theories but I have never given my eBay information to anyone, ever. That simply isn't what happened. Rather than speculating, let's wait until I receive a response from eBay as to what the problem could be. I will let you all know.
i wouldnt wait for eBay to call you. Keep calling eBay.
they suspened my account and ended all my auctions about 4 months ago with the SAME worded email.
turns out, after i called them repeatedly, eBay said my phone number was invalid... I have had the same phone number for the past 6 years. I insisted the phone number was valid, and finally after about 3 days they reinstated my acount.
it's no surprise, just another reason to bail on ebay. i have a buddy that sells on ebay, got naru'ed out of the blue for no known reason, just a bogus excuse that he was a suspected shill-bidder. bizarre!
he just re-registered under a new name, hasn't had a problem ever since.
I used to have a credit card where the CC company was very cautious. Every time I left town my card was denied. I would have to call and go through lots of Q&A until they turned it on again. They said it was some automated fraud prevention system. As was postulated earlier in this thread this sounds like the same kind of thing. I was able to switch credit cards, but it would be hard to switch from eBay.
"Does eBay have a problem with people putting yahoo payments in the eBay auctions?" No.
"The reason you were terminated is that you listed personal contact information in your auctions. (your phone number and email address) This is against ebay rules and can be found here:"
What Russ Said: "Thousands of sellers list their contact information in their auctions. That policy refers to publishing other eBay user's information." Correct.
Iwog & Tonelover probably did nail it
Just a question - that you DON'T need to answer here: Did you ever contact an underbidder AFTER an auction ended by clicking on their username WITHOUT sending a second chance offer?
Same happened to me last month....I contacted customer support, and after a week, they said it was a case of mistaken identity..but it screwed up a bunch of auctions I was bidding on...
After about 20 minutes of reading all the posts on this thread I don't think its the credit or debit card. I think there are only two reasons Ebay would suspend acct. and cancell auctions. ( 1 ) Illegal contact of a potential buyer of which they would have proof of. OR ( 2 ) Shill bidding or what almost certainly appears as shill bidding.
Which ever is the case they would give you another chance after you go thru the hassel!
Good luck and I hardly think you would admit to it if it were shill bidding.
Wow I'm surprised to see this thread again. Yes, it was resolved. It was a stupid mixup with identity, eBay thought I was someone else. Sorry I didn't update anyone. Have a Merry Christmas!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
(In my case, the thought was that the email might really be a scam email and a total coincidence, unrelated to the problem.)
But I guess that's unlikely.

I'm just curious what ebay's explanation was.
YEAH, ME TOO!
Did eBay ever get this fixed?
