I have suggested that we have a permanent sticky post at the top of each forum with "guidelines" for that forum. Maybe this is a good idea?

I thought this was a "self imposed" OT board...It seems Cameron has taken it upon himself to be moderator, and has infuriated a few people. If he would just let it go, most of the OT would die, but it seems that his constant moderating prolongs a thread that would normally die of its' own accord. Just my opinion.

Cameron, there will always be some off topic posts on these boards. There is no way that I, or anyone else is ever going to stop that.
Even throughout the day so many posts come in over these forums it's impossible to keep up with them all.

Some off topic posts are moved while others stay. Why? Sometimes it's because I never see it, other times I think, while still off topic, it belongs here.
Everyone is going to have different opinions as to whether something should be moved or not and everyone is not always going to agree with me but I can accept that.

May I suggest that if an off topic bothers someone so much they need to comment, the send me a PM and I will check it out when time permits. If it doesn't get moved or deleted, it's not the end of the world as we know it. And to everyone out there, if I move one of your posts, don't take it personally.

Also, if you see anew person post in the wrong forum rather than jump him/her. Politely let them know which forum would be a better fit for their topic.

What I find most disturbing is how some jumped on a new person posting on the B/S/T board.
Has everyone become so jaded that giving the benefit of doubt that a person may be new to collecting coins is not possible anymore?
Automatically he's a crack pot trying to rip people off? Maybe, but you'd have figured that out in an hour.

The opportunity for sharing your knowledge and bringing someone new in to the hobby probably was lost.

The guy is a scammer trolling for suckers. The more he posted, the more obvious it became, until it was crystal clear. His type does far more harm to the hobby than those who called him for what he is.

The people on these boards have great instincts but all the other scammers haven't taken the time to write me, they just move on.
I don't know this person from Adam but if he is legit, I can understand his concerns about how he was treated.

Hey Carol I have two different thoughts on this, yes I am hearing voices again. First he came here trying to peddle some coins he just purchased on ebay for around $600 and was asking $7000 plus for them and if nothing else it was insulting to the presumed intellingence of the community. For that he got what he deserved.

However, the criticism could have been dished out in a better, less confrontive style. My concern is that I have heard others state that they fear to post on here becuase of that type of criticism. So I guess what I am saying this guy got what he deserved but how many folks will feel intimidated in the process. Not all of us are thick-skinned (before you say it, thick-headed) and we may have again made some folks think twice about joining in, which if that is the case then we should rethink the situation and how to handle it the next time.
Gotta go I hear a voice calling me.

I think you've said it the best so far. Maybe the guy isn't what he says he is but no one seems to get much of a chance these days.
You are a smart group and even had it been handled nicer, it wouldn't have taken long to see his real intentions.

This person had more pitfalls then anybody I've ever heard of.....

Its one thing if a New Person shows up on the boards and would inquire about their recent purchase.

Its already alittle suspicious when they immediately goto to bst board trying to unload their wares.......

I remember another huckster that did in fact post to the us coin board first about this rare mother load of coins.
It was all junk and people told him that and warned him to stay away from this ebay auction he refered to, with
the intent of helping him avoid a bad deal. It turned out the person was also the seller on the auction..

Then not to long along we have the Centigrade dealer with a very similar bit as this latest person....

This latest person buys these coins, claims to not know the true values, has the seller guarantee them and refer him
to the PCGs price guide, then several posts later claims he's been a member of PCGs... hmmm... Seems that he should
have been aware of the Price guides all along.....

But with each and every post the agony and trials this 'preacher' went thru increased ten fold, he now is going to live in a motel..
Gee, the Church I goto has programs to help people like this, being a Preacher and all, its a bit strange nobody is stepping upto
the plate to help him....

I'm sorry, he may be legit, but I'm got a very expensive watch on my wrist, and I'll have to save it before I sink in the BS and it ruins.

...so maybe to email this guy direct was absoltely wrong - but frankly I bet no one did, and this Perry dude just told you so. His story changed on the boards also in likewise fashion - every post we heard the details change - typical scammer MO - I wouldn't lose too much sleep over this one.
So maybe some where harsh but you know he should have gotten the message right in the begining or as Irishmike aptly put it - our intelligence areas are where being broached.

I'll be first in line with you to agree that someone who starts posting here without knowing
exactly what the guidelines are should get consideration and be politely shown the correct
way. HOWEVER....

Last night that was one of the more idiotic attempts to scam trash coins, and I think that we
were actually very restrained in our responses.

We could have let FOM loose on him, but
that would be cruel and unusual punishment.

He wasn't a serious person, and we lost nothing. (And gained several hours of entertainment.)

So What Did I Miss
