I had to release a beautiful coin I had on hold.

BearBear Posts: 18,953 ✭✭✭
It breaks my heart, but I had to release the magnificent 1879 Liberty Seated Half PCGS MS-68 on hold

from Larry Whitlow Ltd. Some financial priorities came up requiring my Immediate monetary attention.

Since it is not fair to tie up such a coin for an indefinite period, it is hereby released should anyone on the

Forums hold an interest in it. I had been hoping to show you all a picture of this wonderous coin, but

now Mike Prinz will be able to show one of his wonderful pictures of a wonderful coin. Snif, snif sob.

A very disappointed bear

Sorry to hear about not getting the coin. Take two jars of honey and go to bed. You'll feel better in the spring.

It it like a car where we can take over payments???
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • That's a fine coin you had to let go of, Bear. But, we both know that letting go of one coin eventually frees up your paws to grab another.

    There's a coin a-comin'. Somewhere, someday.

I saw it and it is an amazing coin. It's nearly perfect. I can picture some well to do collector of the day hiring a mint employee to stand there and catch
that masterpiece as it came from the dies. The coin will make you an instant fan of Seated Libertys. mdwoods

Bear - I feel your pain. What I'd do for a Seated Liberty Half Dollar in MS-68, wow! Someday, someday.

  • Don't give up all hope,Bear.
You might find that coin available again when you do have the money.
    Think positive !!!
  • Bear- When you announced your purchase of that coin, while still at Long Beach, I had hoped Mike would provide pictures. Still hoping. A Seated Half in MS-68 is a true rarity. Hope you will encourage him to share his pics on this Forum!!

    I did not see any MS68 1879 50c in their website. I only saw an MS66 1879 50c there.

The coin was never put up on the website.

I will ask Mike to do so, as soon as possible.

MS68? That's almost unbelievable! Was there no way to work a deal with Whitlow?

Look on the bright side, you have a ton of other great coins. Besides, MS68 seated half dollars are a dime a dozen!image

Was that competing "financial obligation" by chance a new Mercedes SL55? Someone with the handle of 55-Bear on the Mercedes enthusiast chat site just got his delivered. (The dancing bear icon he uses though differs from the one on this thread.)
