Norse thin? need help

Got to look thru a 38 piece raw commorative collection from the 50's at the little show in Pelham this weekend...some beautiful some with PVC. The dealer gave me first pick for one coin and I [not being much of a commem collector] chose a beautifully toned choice/gem? Norse [my grading]. Two dealers pretty sure it is a 'thin' but no one was absolutely 100% certain. Will ask FC-57 to attach a picture if he took one.
Anyone know much about the Norse or recommend a good reference?...why did it used to part of the commem set? I was 'told' pcgs slabbed these coins but it's not round and I wonder if they stay straight in the holder. Anyway I really like it...have I become medal collector?

The "thin" variety is about as thick as a quarter. The "thick" is a little thicker than a silver dollar. It's thickness is unusal for a medal of that size.

I've seen several Norse medals in PCGS slab, but none of them had turned so I'm guessing that they sit securely.

I saw this thin norse medal at the Pelham show it has some beautiful blue rim toning. Nice catch Dahlonega.

A very nice medal, but it is not a coin and doesn't belong in the commem set. These must have been promoted by some influential dealer decades ago in order to aquire their "near-commem" status. They are actually just one of many, many government issue medals.

291fifth..... I think you can blame the red book for lumping the norse medals with the commem set.
