Nikon 4500 Manual mode

I'm starting to understand what all those wierd settings do. You know the ones. They aren't called Auto. image

I've been stuck in auto mode (with my finger over the flash) for months. This camera is way too complicatedimage Please help.
I know of at least one other forum member stumped with the 4500 tooimage

You can get great results when you go to manual. The only thing I haven't mastered is to get the camera to stablize the white point. It does the right white balance every time, but I can't get the white point (the reading for pure white) to stay the same from shot to shot. When I figure that out, I'll have the photography thing permanently nailed down. image

Another person suggested the following. I haven't tried it yet.

No need to mess with manual mode. Takes too long. Use Aperture Priority mode with an F stop of at least 6 to get good depth of field. If photographing an NGC or ANACS slab, you'll need to set EV to +0.7 or +1.0 to compensate for the white background .

Anytime a camera comes with a book and a video you know you're in for trouble image.
The longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it possible for an empire to rise without His aid? Benjamin Franklin
