I've been stuck in auto mode (with my finger over the flash) for months. This camera is way too complicated Please help. I know of at least one other forum member stumped with the 4500 too
You can get great results when you go to manual. The only thing I haven't mastered is to get the camera to stablize the white point. It does the right white balance every time, but I can't get the white point (the reading for pure white) to stay the same from shot to shot. When I figure that out, I'll have the photography thing permanently nailed down.
Another person suggested the following. I haven't tried it yet.
No need to mess with manual mode. Takes too long. Use Aperture Priority mode with an F stop of at least 6 to get good depth of field. If photographing an NGC or ANACS slab, you'll need to set EV to +0.7 or +1.0 to compensate for the white background .
Anytime a camera comes with a book and a video you know you're in for trouble .
The longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it possible for an empire to rise without His aid? Benjamin Franklin
