Raw Coin Collectors do not know Squat.

They cannot tell the difference between excellent luster and impaired luster. They grade coins with standards that are out dated. They think a so so coin is a Gem. You say hairlines to them and they think you are talking about something on the top of thier head. A slide mark is something left when stealing second base in a baseball game. Strong Strike is something a Teamster does. Guess they are just all messed up when collecting thier coins.
By the way did the above statements make you want to Puketh ?
If so then why do some collectors have the gall to put down collectors that collect coins in plastic and Register thier coins in the Registries ?
Just Curious.

Thanks. I've been bored as hell today, and I figure this should be pretty entertaining.

Let's see, should I buy a 1921-D Mercury Dime raw for $1300 and hope the grader has a clue, or get one alreaded graded and authenticated for the same money. Let's see which would make a better investment over time. The first one could get bb for a bunch of reasons, the latter well, I would think it must be close with a buy back guarentee.
I think I'll swith back to the old days! I'll take the horse and buggy down to the local tading post and see what I can find...
Progress people, it is called progress. It is a simple fact of life. Thank God those days are gone!

At last a thread the both NGC and PCGS lovers can get behind.

<< <i>Those Rawbies need to move out of their caves and into the 21st century. >>
We need to remember that a raw coin can be a coin that just hasn't
been graded yet and a slabbed coin can be just a crackout away from
a raw coin.
I prefer my ladies, "bare nekkid"!!
Forever nekkid in MacCrimmon's arms (well finger tips, anyway)
Now waiting almost 100 days for PCGS to clothe me!!!
Nekkid Rules!!! Til I need to sell to slab-o-philes!
Oh Yeah, I don't know squat, too!
Guess that makes me a......uh.....coin collector?

I happen to like buying coins that are slabbed, because they have already been through an objective (hopefully) third party grader.
Because of my personal collecting habits, I wouldn't elect to buy an MS-66+ coin in today's market whether it's raw or slabbed. I would probably only pay an MS-64 to MS-65 price for a coin that is slabbed by either NGC or PCGS.
I dont think that most people disagree with whether or not thrid party grading is an advance to the hobby -- although some do. I think that it's more of a personal decision as to what type of coins to purchase. Whether you prefer condition rarity, date rarity, type rarity or series rarity.

Are we just entertaining ourselves with Sunday night banter, or are some of you guys really being serious?
I hope that you're taking this that seriously. It's supposed to be a challenging & fun hobby...

Collecting is suppose to be Fun. When it gets serious you better hit the road and find a better leisure time activity.
