I just sold a car to Christian Gobrecht

's great-great grandson... or maybe his great-great nephew. I didn't clarify.
I had a customer named "Gobrecht" and sheepishly asked him if he was related to Gobrecht the engraver. I half-expected him to have no idea what I was talking about, but he replied that he indeed was and even had two Gobrecht dollars framed on his wall.
Anyway, I had a copy of the Gobrecht Journal in my office when he came to pick up his new FX45, and he copied down the subscription information so he could join the LSCC.
I feel like I met a celebrity-- in a geeky sort of way.

I once talked with somebody named Humbert, and asked if she was related to Augustus Humbert of territorial gold fame (also expecting her to look at me like I came from another planet), but sure enough, she was a distant relative!
I think there was a story about her grandmother having some Humbert gold...

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I was going to ask which variety of dollars he paid you with.
That he has two actual coins is fantastic.
Got quoins?
<< <i>LOL I got to talk to Dan Quail (LOL I dont remember how to spell his name) LOL is it patato or patatoe???? >>
Neither.
Bah! Who are they?
We're talkin' about numismatic celebrities, here!
<< <i>They are a part of American History thats who they are. >>
Well, considering both men are still alive I think you've jumped the gun just a bit.

He said he has the no stars variety with Gobrecht's name at the base of the rock and one with stars variety. Unfortunately he didn't offer me either.

<< <i>that is waaaay kool. can't be too many folks around w/ the name "gobrecht", can there? >>
Well. . . .a four11.com search shows 150, but I'm unsure if the search was just limited to a max value. What is interresting, however, is that the majority of them seem to be concentrated in the MD/PA area.
