1959 Proof Set, w/cameo half

ultradmpldollars · August 17, 2003 11:50AM

Is this date hard to get a cameo half in? Any added value, other than greysheet price for the proof set?

Placid · August 17, 2003 11:51AM

Yes cameo's are worth a premium, dcam even better.

ultradmpldollars · August 17, 2003 11:53AM

Any idea on what a 59 Frankie would be worth in cam?

Russ · August 17, 2003 11:54AM

1959 is one of the most difficult years for cameo in the Franklin Half Dollar. The dies were pretty shot by then, and were re-tooled the following year.

Would it be worth grading?

wingedliberty · August 17, 2003 12:00PM

Yes, It is surely worth grading. Send to PCGS or NGC only.

<< <i>Would it be worth grading? >>

Can you get a good picture of it?

I have a friend that just bought one after years of searching proof sets and trying to make one on his own. He paid $425.00 for a PCGS Proof 67 Cameo.

My scanner isn't the greatest, and would not pick up the cameo...White coins seem pink on my scanner..

Cam40 · August 17, 2003 12:13PM

This post has me thinking, about something I,ve been meaning to do. Go through all my proof sets and jot down
just what I do have.
Maybe I,ll compile a list of anything that pops up and relay the list here for opinions of values etc...

Sorry, Thinking out loud...

buc · August 17, 2003 12:16PM

I would not send any cameo coin to NGC, They seem to be much more critical and for some reason cameo coins don't look good in those white slabs. IMO

LucyBop · August 17, 2003 2:51PM

I think the best thing to do is simply sell the set to me..... see, then you will have no more worrys.....

DCAMFranklin · August 17, 2003 3:01PM

You could sell the proof set to me for more and I would be plenty happy to have NGC grade the Cameo Franklin!
