Need opinions on this Gold coin.....

I am putting together a resistry set of these 1/4 eagles. Here is an auction:

It appears that the coin has been authenticated by ANACS but there is also a sort of "disclaimer" that says the coin "appears to have been used in Jewelry".
NOW - it's RARE- the KEY of the series. It's possible that there MAY be a little solder on an edge (the ad doesn't point this out). This coin in AU is worth thousands
Hmmmmm - any similarities between this coin and the 1913 nickel? Would PCGS slab it? The pics look good but who knows?
Okay -so - based ONLY upon the ad and the pics - what are the chances of it getting slabbed?

I don't get the checked by anacs thing, anacs will slab ex-jewelry coins. Maybe he showed it to them at a coin show?

From the nature of your post/questions, I was under the impression that you, on your own, would not be able to verify its authenticity and make a determination as to whether PCGS would holder it. If that is the case, a return privilege is a moot point. If I was mistaken, though, then I apologize.
However, as I and many others have pointed out in a multitude of threads on this forum - there is almost always a reason why such a coin is not already in a holder and those reasons are almost certainly, not ones you will wish to deal with, if you purchase the coin.
I am not able to verify the authenticity myself - the seller states that it has been done by ANACS. I have e-mailed the seller and asked 4 or 5 questions. I will pass along the info when I get it.

Why was it not slabbed then?
As coinguy1 points out there has to be a reason the coin is not slabbed.
Remember there is no free lunch in numismatics, especially on a key day in a hot series.
If the coin was impaired what would you do to sell it at the highest price? SLab it. Can't slab? Sell it raw on ebay or teletrade where it cannot be examined. Offer a return priveledge and hope the buyer is not an expert.

That it takes 3 months to get a coin back from certain slabbing companies????
That's a BIG reason that I don't get some coins graded - the process takes too long and is too expensive for a lot of coins. To spend an extra $30 for slabbing on a $75 coin that you got a "good deal" on at $55 is stupid.
In addition to that, the 3 month time frame is enough time for gold or silver prices to go through the roof and then come back down again- you'd miss the market.
I'm an impatient S.O.B. and I don't wanna wait that long - especially when they have a so-called "guarantee" on turn around time that is not really a guarantee at all. Based on what I've read here - it's just hype and marketing - the same kind of stuff that E-bay scammers use to prop up the perceived value of what they are selling. If I join the Platinum SuperDuper Expert Collector Club - and pay out the Wazzooo - I don't get treated any differently as any joe blow Free Jr. club member - they will still ship and grade my coins when they get the time.
I'm not implying that all of these points apply on this one coin - just that there are MANY resons not to have a coin slabbed- even if it's a key in the series.
I have decided to pass on this one, however. I DO believe the seller isn't telling all. He says ANACS authenticated it at the Baltimore show but doesn't indicate why he didn't get them to slab it at the same time. That's enough for me.

I would go further and say that unless you are an expert in the series, you should not buy RAW coins that are frequently counterfeited or have altered mint marks. As Mark Feld pointed out, sight seen does you no good if you cannot tell a real one from a fake or an added mintmark piece.
