Never seen it but I would guess it's just a generic baseball scene from a European issue. Likely from England or Spain. The issue is probably not exclusively baseball, or even exclusively sports for that matter.

    Just a guess, though.

like the Churchman's Babe Ruth (that shows him but just says "baseball"), this card is just a generic representation of a ballplayer, probably from an English multi sport set from the mid 30's

Is there anything on the back of the card?

The front has a nice tape mark.

Gotta be European/English -- square plate and basepaths going in the wrong direction (not to mention that goofy looking back foot in his stance)!

    Varga,
i thought it was "kinda cool", looks like a tobacco stain from a smoke, not a tape mark.
    Kevin,
I never noticed the basepaths , that's priceless.
.....send me an inovoice for those Johnston's (i assume i've cleaned you out by now?)

I figured it was a multi-sport english card, but what is it?

    Hi guys,

This card is from a set called 'Sports And Pastimes In South Africa' but out by United Tobacco Companies Ltd in South Africa in 1936.

It is a 52 card set and the cards measure 77mm x 58mm. The backs have text in both English and Afrikaans.

    Hope that helps.

In a couple of hours, it might be mine. My wife is from South Africa, so it would be a cool little addition to our stuff.

What's the matter Murcer, bad day? Get a flat tire on the way home?

What's with all that editing you do anyway?
Do you say lots of nasty stuff, then reconsider?

    Mmmmmmm...did someone say ribs?

Here's my simple recipe (back ribs, not those nasty spare ribs)
*put in an oval crock pot for 7 hours on low. Immersed in water.
    *pull out, rinse
*throw on a super hot grill for about 5 minutes each side
*Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce all over it
    *yummy!

I guess I did take out my frustrations on that new guy regarding everyone's SMR whining.
Oh well, a little initiation makes for good character.

Forget the SMR, lets make some ribs!
