Never seen it but I would guess it's just a generic baseball scene from a European issue. Likely from England or Spain. The issue is probably not exclusively baseball, or even exclusively sports for that matter.
like the Churchman's Babe Ruth (that shows him but just says "baseball"), this card is just a generic representation of a ballplayer, probably from an English multi sport set from the mid 30's
Varga, i thought it was "kinda cool", looks like a tobacco stain from a smoke, not a tape mark. Kevin, I never noticed the basepaths , that's priceless. .....send me an inovoice for those Johnston's (i assume i've cleaned you out by now?)
I figured it was a multi-sport english card, but what is it?
How did you know i just worked out something with mickey. i had to whack him, but i think it will be worth knocking your sorry ass out of first place and into the ropes. you know my set is better than yours anyways, especially since you did the wieghting in your favor!
Scotty.......every day's a holiday here in cardheaven. I thought you knew that, '54 certainly does and that's why he gets poked in the ribs. i had to edit to get the 'fro just right, i didn't what to short change you. what's up with slamming the newbies when they whine about the SMR
Here's my simple recipe (back ribs, not those nasty spare ribs) *put in an oval crock pot for 7 hours on low. Immersed in water. *pull out, rinse *throw on a super hot grill for about 5 minutes each side *Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce all over it *yummy!
I guess I did take out my frustrations on that new guy regarding everyone's SMR whining. Oh well, a little initiation makes for good character.

Just a guess, though.

Gotta be European/English -- square plate and basepaths going in the wrong direction (not to mention that goofy looking back foot in his stance)!

This card is from a set called 'Sports And Pastimes In South Africa' but out by United Tobacco Companies Ltd in South Africa in 1936.
It is a 52 card set and the cards measure 77mm x 58mm. The backs have text in both English and Afrikaans.
Hope that helps.

now i have to lay off. If you buy it post a back scan.
It looks to be in pretty nice shape for a 1936'er.
thanks for the info invader
I believe it is a South African version of a Greatest Moments card of Jerry Grote....HEE,HEE

What's with all that editing you do anyway?
Do you say lots of nasty stuff, then reconsider?
