Who else has weak 3 cents in silver proof sets?

Recieved my 5 sets today and all the cents have a weak "3"! No way these would make Dcam or a nice even set.
Should I send them back or wait for results from everyone else? image What the crap is happening here?image

Are you saying that you received silver proof sets in which the cent has a faint "3" in the date?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    I got a weak 3 in change today, a 2003 Dimage

The Lincoln Cent in the date! The strike of the 3 in 2003 is weak and looking at the date you don't see it well until you tilt the case. The 2 0 0 are obvious and are cameo, but the "3" in the date is not. Looks like a ghost of a three until you get the loop out and angle the coins!

All 5 sets are the same!image

You have five sets of silver three cent pieces? Are they graded by PCGS? Are they raw? What years? I have only one proof silver three cent piece (1861) and it is not even a cam.

  • I noticed that in the Lincoln that DHRC has for sale and was wondering about it.
    Lincoln PR70DCAM
Now I'll have to open my sets to check.

Perfectstrike, That is exactly the way my 5 sets look. I guess if that grades a 70, it must be a common strike for the proof series Lincolns. That coin had to have come out of a clad set, so I guess the Silver Proof sets are no exception. I didn't buy or have looked at the Clad proof sets yet!
    Thanks for a better picture!

  • I just got my two sets in the mail yesterday and they both have the same problem. You can't even see the 3 when you look at the Lincoln straight on, you have to tilt the holder to see it.

  • TJ I think Jeff may have phrased the title wrong its the 3 of 2003 on the proof cents.

Maybe there will be premium for sets with a normal 3?

A coin that ISNT fully struck getting a PR70 just flys in the face of reason if you take the Sheldon scale
    the way its written.

Oldgoat, can you scan and post! The 3 on the date of the Lincoln is almost non-visible just looking at the coin. Look at the 70DCAM posted and check yours! A mystery three in the date, but if yours are visible and frosted that could very well mean something. The 70DCAM had to be from a clad proof set because of the date the auction started, but shouldn't be different for silver proofs because the coin is the same for both sets.

    Me, too!

I'd love to have a proof set with a 3 cent silver in it! I wouldn't complain if it was a little weak! image

Got 5 silver sets yesterday and the Lincolns are fine! The quality on the quarters is out of this world!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
