ms64 she got some spots on her chin that would keep her from the 65 slab

Good solid strike...clean cheek....was gonna say 65 until I saw the comments about the frost breaks on the chin. Lock 64...a 65 if you get a good day.

Judging by the scan, I am guessing 65 with no problem.

    ms-63 minus. below-average strike for 1882-s.

actually, obv. looks worn to me, but the reverse looks unc. personally, i'd grade as ms-61 or so

    nice color!

Karl- Actually it is a pretty good strike for an 1882-o

coin looks like it's one of the weaker o/s varieties. Doesn't look like the strong one they put on the holder.

    Coin looks like it'll grade a 65.

It looks like an MS 62 (marks on the chin and under the wings of the eagle, ding on the rim). If it's not bagged for questionable toning they might give it an MS63. The golden toning looks ok but I don't know about that purple stuff. Maybe you should have dipped it, the golden toning would have come back eventually.

    << <i>It's not an S mint, it's an O. >>

in this case, previous comments withdrawn! i would say 63 plus.

honest to goodness, it looks like a "S" on my (admittedly crappy) computer monitor

MS-63 And everyone at PCGS, including the janitor, will have to look at that coin before it goes in a holder. The big color coins are taking forever to receive their grades.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! It's got a couple of little marks, but overall it's got great eye appeal IMHO. I'd say it will be a solid 64.

Just an area missing toning. Not flattening or ding.

If not bagged, I would say by TODAY"S standards it would 65. If there are marks that can't be seen by the image, then lower. I say this because when imaging the color, you probably had to tilt the coin.... hence the marks wouldn't show as much in the image. Otherwise it looks to be a lock 65 imo. And I'm pretty tough but the coin looks pretty clean.

Nice find for an O, but wouldn't go higher than MS63. Flea market finds can be tough. I see scarring on
cheek and chin, maybe bag abrasions. Still a nice coin!

It looks real nice, I reserve my right to say this is only opinion. I think the coin will go 64, but without seeing it first hand, is it posible the coin will BB? I just looks too good to be true. I'm pretty sure if I were the submitter it would BB.image

    Fcloud,

Truth be told, that's the same thing I thought while I was buying it. I thought all the correct signs were there, but I'm just barely learning this stuff. So, when I got back with it, I posted this thread asking for opinions on the toning:

    Original post about the coin.

The feedback was reassuring, and so were all the PMs I got wanting to buy it.image

    Russ,

I really don't think I can give you a good grade from a scan, but I'll try.

First: The coin has a spectacular look for an 1882-O. You just don't see New Orleans mint with great color that often. Especially the broad band of red.

Second: Doesn't appear as if there is much going on on the obverse. My only concern is the little disturbance to the right of the eagle (Peter).

    Conclusion: MS-65, shot MS-66

    Good luck!
