OT - It's offical Im staying in the Navy

Will I wanted to say this sooner but had to wait. I had the choose of retiring from the Navy this year but due to a few different issues I have decided to stay around for anouther 3 years. I will be rotating back to sea duty at the end of the year. I will be going to the USS Nassua LHA-4. This is a BIG change for me, I have only been on small ship's before but I welcome the challenge. To make this relate to coin collecting I will not have as much time to devote to my hobby but still will do what I can to enjoy it.

Congratulations on staying. What rank/grade are you? I was in the Air Force for four years so I don't know what kind of ship a LHA-4 is, could you enlighten us?

Good luck CPO Dan in the Gator Navy. I was a Machinist Mate aboard the USS Bradley FF1041 way back when the Navy still used sails.

    Dan--

You can go off to sea in Tall Ships, but I'll still find you and drag you back to "Class." Congrats on your re-uping. Be safe, and thank you.

  • I had planned that this was going to be my last tour and I would transition to the civ sector this summer. Between the lousy economy, my decimated retirement fund, and world events...I'm also around for another 3 years.

You'll love NASSAU...I did two deployments on TARAWA back in the 80's. They're great ships and a nice ride...and you get to play with Marines...image

  • CDR those are my exact reasons why I will be sticking around, I'm not sure about the playing with Marines part I don't play nice with othersimage. I have done my time on Destroyer's and Frigate's so this will be a BIG change.

    Congratulations!
I'm clearing and will go on transition leave for retirement on 8 April from the Army. And...for those who asked, yes the Army is still letting people out. This is due to the 480k cap on the number of soldiers mandated by Congress.

    Dan,
Fair winds & following seas. I only did 11 years, and I still miss it 20+ years later.

I salute your service, Dan. My son just went to the Gulf on the Saipan ... we need some good Navy men to give our Marines a ride and provide the corpsmen to patch up the wounded. I saw today the Navy lost its first man in combat, a corpsman. God bless em and keep em...
  • Dan,
Good luck with your decision. I wish you the best. If you need someone to look after that collection of halves for you, I babysit cheap. LOLimage
