Are SMS coins going to be given the FT designation?

I was just looking at some auctions and this question popped into my head. They are graded MS so i would think they would be, what are your thoughts?

I would guess yes, since not all special mint set coins are created equal or have good strikes.

That would be an interesting auction title --- PCGS 1965 MS-68 SMS FT .10 with monster toning --- somthing just seems wrong about that i always thought coin collecting was supposed to be simple.image

Whats the "FT" designation? I've been around awhile but I don't recall hearing that one.

It is a new designation that PCGS is adding to roosevelt dimes. It means "full torch." It is a way of judging the good or bad strikes.

    Thanks for the reply hookedoncoins!

    Now for my opinion:

Ugh. Give me a break. Just another gimmick for novice collectors to pursue. I'll be the judge
of how well the coins I want to buy are struck. ***PANIC!!! Will this statement get me tossed off the forums?

    Interesting question!

I would guess no, they won't give SMS coins the FT designation.

If you look at Jefferson SMS nickels, all of the 65-67 coins get the CAM
or DCAM designation, since these were semi-proof coins. The '94
and '97 SMS Jeffersons do get the Full Step designation, but no CAM's
or DCAM's, maybe because these are a matte finish coin.

And, mbbiker was right, but he forgot part of the name - it should be:

    1965 10c SMS PCGS MS68 FT DCAM!!! ... a little much, I think ... a coin
like that would need a ten-gallon price tag too!
