I have found the grading to be very close between NGC and PCGS in the coins I collect which is mostly gold coins in au-ms. mike

Russ, do you know if their grading fees are the same if you submit as an ANA member ($39 to join), or if you join their "collectors' society" for $99? And what are their grading levels/costs? I'm waiting for my ANA member # and haven't seen the submission fees/service levels page yet.

Don't expect NGC to be "Mr. Softy" when it comes to handing out grades. I've been submitting quite a bit lately, and while I got some pleasant surprises, I've gotten a couple of kicks in the pants too.

The materials I got in do say there is a five coin minimum for the modern ($11) tier, also for economy ($15). I also did it through ANA membership.

Anyone thinking that NGC will go easy on them needs to read what BillJones wrote again.

Overall, NGC has been more brutal to me than PCGS. It's just that it is brutality that I can understand and if I don't, there is a review process.

Same for me, no grade gifts, but much more predictable. Don't expect loose. I think they heard the market criticizm of their modern grading and took it seriously.

Ask Greg. He is the master of the NGC submissions. Russ has never submitted through NGC.

Unless NGC has changed their policies, you must send in a form for an ANA associate number from NGC, prior to submitting coins. This number must be included on your submission form. BTW, you can go towww.NGCcoin.com and all of the grading tiers and pricing is listed.

That's correct. As it turns out, it is the same number I was already using for my submissions to NCS.

I have a question: I had been submitting to NGC through a dealer who no longer handles NGC submissions. I just sent in my application for the ANA submitting. On that form, they wanted my CC#. Do they charge to sign up? Or did they want the CC for future submissions?

Nope, no charge for signing up. The CC# is a fallback for when you submit to them. You still have the option of paying by check, or using a different CC on submissions. When I signed up for NCS, they also required a CC number, but have never charged anything I didn't authorize.

I did not pay to get an ANA associate number, nor did I have to give them a CC number, I do not believe. I would suggest you call them at customer service ans get the straight info. 1-800-587-1897.

OK, thanks Russ. One complaint I have about NGC is their website (and especially their registry) is extremely difficult to navigate, and I am no spring chicken to the internet. They really need to think about doing an overhaul to their site.

If you are a paid Collectors Society member and fill out your submission form online, they will give you a 10% discount. They do not give this to ANA members.

K6AZ, I agree with you. Their website is pretty half-arsed (as is PCGS's), not that it isn't *somewhat* logical they could do a much better job. The navigation at the top is relatively straightforward, but not all information that you would expect in each catagory is actually present once you click through. Everything below the navigation is really scatterbrained. Why is the registry linked to from the headlines area? Why a short list of headlines and no link to past headlines at the bottom? Why would the "coin of the day" and the "e-Newsletter" be more prominant than "How to submit"? Someone was really missing the boat when they laid out that site.

I joined the ANA for a year at the Long Beach Show.. cost me $33.00 not $39.00. Told the nice booth lady that I'd seen the tape and already had a loupe (sign-up bonuses) and could I have an ANA medal for a signup bonus instead.. she said sure. I talked to her today. She's sent me their bigass 3" Bronze Medal instead of the dinky 1" one

..

I self-submitted at the same show (using the eBay form) a 2000-W Library of Congress $10.00 Gold and Platinum BiMetallic Unc to NGC for $35.00 and got it back in an MS70 slab.

I'm with you Robert. They really need to do something about it. Their forums are not that bad as far as navigating, but I don't post much over there because I don't like their heavy handeness regarding what they feel are "acceptable" posts. Too much censorship in my opinion, and they blasted the first post I made there last year.
