Just a few worthy comments… Registry Sets are not always about rankings and points. It really is and should be about what is possible. There are some incredible sets at lower grades that really represent quality for the grade. And at certain grades, there is a rarity factor that is often lost for those that seek slabs over coins.

And another thought… the best Orioles teams played at Memorial Stadium which was demolished years ago. It was a neighborhood park from a time when MLB was different -including the beer and food that was consumed. The Natty Bohs were cold and one felt as if they were surrounded by ordinary people witnessing great baseball. Sadly the Season Jim Gentile had in 1961 that was overshadowed by Maris and Mantle is a distant memory except for those that lived it. And in all fairness, the seasons of Norm Cash and Rocky Colavito and to a lessor extent, Al Kaline, created a buzz in Detroit that was simply incredible and not seen since 1945.

My point is simply that there is so much that we miss if we skim the surface without taking a deeper dive into what really should matter.

I'm surprised they haven't rolled out sets for circulated coins, comparable to the PCGS "Everyman" sets.

That's been the plan, execution has been the challenge. I've been told that some important registry additions and modifications are in the works.

The CACG registry has only been up and running for a few months, apples and oranges to compare it to the PCGS registry which has been operating for several decades. I have no doubt that as it grows and new sets are added that it will become more popular.

    Updated thoughts?

    For me:

I have never participated in the PCGS Registry, because although the majority of my coins are PCGS, I have a significant amount of NGC coins. And now some CACG coins.

When NGC stopped recognizing CAC Stickers, I removed my sets there.

I only use the CAC Registry. My percentage of non-CAC/CACG Registry coins is small and dwindling.

When I rolled my inventory over to the CAC registry it created 2089 sets!
Right now I have 486 PCGS Registry sets
When I went through it all I noticed that they had proof sets but no mint sets. I sent an email asking if they would add mint sets to the list. They responded and said they didn't understand my request. I then called and talked with Janae and explained what I was asking for. She said the she would put it on the list of requests and forward it to the people in charge.
That was a month ago, nothing yet.
I was really surprised that they already didn't have mint sets

I think we can attribute close to half that number to the duplication of the CAC/CACG and universal sets. And as I mentioned earlier in the thread there are a number of sets that are very similar that I'm not sure needed to be created. I too am hopeful that CAC will add mint sets to the lineup but I'm patient and willing to let CAC grow their registry at a pace they are comfortable with. That is easy for me to say as I have no winning sets, and it is doubtful that I ever will.

Just one thing to add about the CAC registry.
There is no verification of the coins you add.
You choose the grading company then add the cert number and then choose the item number and then YOU choose the grade. You can put in any grade you want because the system doesn't verify it
    I found this quite concerning.

That's is interesting. I guess because I only enter coins with CAC approval so they are in their system. When I pick the grading company and enter the cert it automatically pulls up the grade/coin. I don't have the chance to change it (or didn't know I could). I will check that out.

I assume this is because the competition does not given CACG access to their database feed.

This is one of the reasons why I prefer the MyCollect Registry. It pulls automatically from all of the TPGs, including the CAC stickering database (and stickered coins earn more points). I also find the user interface to be pretty good, and less clunky than CAC’s. Plus, the MyCollect admins enthusiastically take suggestions for new Registry sets.

Superb collections are built more by omission than by addition.

I agree with all of this.

However, for my sets at least, I still prefer the PCGS registry for the simple reason that the best of the best sets in my series are still there. I am #1 at CAC and MyCollect in a number of sets but that doesn't do much for me because I know the real best sets are still at PCGS.

Every registry can be manipulated, even the vaunted PCGS registry has holes and can be exploited if one lacks morals/ethics and wishes to.

I’ve never had an issue with the CACG registry recognizing my PCGS cert numbers. They don’t automatically bring photos over like MyCollect does however.

I'm glad that the CACG registry doesn't bring the Trueview images over automatically because many of their images are very poor quality. (I'm being nice)
