**GRADE REVEALED IN FIRST POST** I haven't done a GTG in a while - Circulated Barber Half Dollar
I felt like it was nice for the grade and actually agree with those of you that were in the VF grades. No matter the grade, or TPG, I'm happy to have it in my collection. Thanks to all that participated.

ANACS graded. I'll post the grade Tuesday afternoon/evening.

I hate going first Mike!.. 20. These fine scratches on the Obv might make it worse.

The fine scratches don't really show in hand. It's just the reflection of the light that makes it look worse.

Okay, thanks. Then I'll go with a solid 20.. Possibly 30.

The preliminary results suggest that I am really out of touch with circulated grading this century. When I learned to grade way back in the 1990s, "LIBERTY" had to be full and bold for a VF 20 grade. At the fine level, it had to be visible but could be weak and the bottom half could be worn away as long as the letter was clear. At fine half of the eagle's feathers had to be present but in VF all wing and tail feathers had to fully separated with only minimal flatness on the highest tips.
Vf 20, nice coin
I'm in the Fine 12 or 15 camp. Bottom of wreath is worn. Reverse looks closer to VF20.

My first thought was F15 as well.
We will see what the reveal shows.

Just makes F15 due to the sharpness of LIBERTY. Not a VF coin.

Nice one Mike! It faces up as a VF+ to me, but not sure the reverse quite get's there ... so let's call it a 20, and I'll probably be wrong.

20, really close to a 25.
Yikes, can those with the "20" and above grades please be there when PCGS looks at my coins for certification?
Well, just Love coins, period.
I don't know how you feel about the CoinValues/Coin World book Making The Grade, but your coin is just about a perfect match for the coin the show as a VF-25. James

I thought I would take a moment to explain the basis for my VF25 opinion before the grade is actually posted.
I am not limiting my opinion based solely on LIBERTY which basically consumes less than 3% of the obverse. And even if I did, LIBERTY is bold but the bottom of the ribbon is worn and separated. I am looking at the other 97% of the obverse. I think the eye, nose and lips look reasonable. There is hairline separation at the forehead that extends down to the ear. There are no horrible worn flat spots at the cheek or forehead. The laurel is reasonably defined. The obverse surfaces look reasonable for a coin that falls within the VF spectrum.
The reverse is a tad more problematic. I think we all can agree that the obverse should carry the grade and the reverse can only hold the coin back. In this instance, the reverse does NOT help the cause, But in all fairness, in looking at the wear pattern of the obverse, it really seems likely that we have a weak strike given the reasonable quality of the surfaces. 1906 was the first year for the Denver Mint. I suspect that if one contemplates weakness in both obverse and reverse strikes, what we would likely see is what we see in this coin. The lower ribbon in LIBERTY is bad, the wings look bad even though the shield is not terrible for a VF25.
I have not studied Barbers by date or mint as I see the design is inferior to World Coinage from the same era. In fact, the design seems as best to be a cheap replica of the better French design which I have posted here several times that appeared on French coinage dating back to 1849 and earlier if patterns are considered.
At the end of the analysis, VF 25 seems to capture the coin for what it is... or for what the grade should be if we look at the entire coin instead of zooming in on LIBERTY on the obverse and Wing tips on the reverse.
And for those of you who disagree... that is okay as I see my view as speaking for the coin in its entirety instead of the locations that we have been trained to focus on.
Edited to add: Oops... I guess I whiffed this one... Swing and a miss.

My gut reaction was VF25. It is almost the platonic ideal of an album coin.

Grade revealed in the first post.
Props to photograde although I agree with the 17.5 mentioned earlier.
As this was not my series, I referred to the Photograde grading guide book - 18th edition before guessing. Was spot on, and 30 years old.
Unfortunately, I did not provide an image to illustrate my earlier point in connection with French Coinage.
