I would grade it VG before the counterstamp.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

But what would you grade it now?

I don't collect counterstamps and have very little experience with them. The only one I have is a "Vote the Land Free" piece which is a political item.

I suppose you might grade the coin and the counterstamp, which appears to be in EF. The coin can't really be graded. Most collectors would say it's seriously damaged.

    Here's my only counterstamp.

To obtain the given grade. It refers to the Sheldon scale, a number.

No one gives Sheldon grading numbers to damaged or counter stamped coins. The nomenclature is a sharpness grade followed by the nature of the defect. This is what others and myself gave you. This coin is not the type of piece which gets a straight Sheldon grading number.

I don't know if this is new but it has been given a grade by PCGS and it is a variety.

So this a self promotion on your part combined with what seems to be a change in PCGS grading policy.

I hope that this did not get a straight grade with no notation about the counterstamp. If I bought a straight graded VG and received this coin, I would be very unhappy.

I'm not trying to promote anything simply playing a game called GTG!
Yes, there is a notation about the counterstamp.

Then why did you criticize us for not telling you what you wanted to hear. You received honest answers.

That's a cool looking large cent.
    Good luck with the sale.
I'm sure it'll garner interest and thus a high(er) price.

Thanks and I think it looks pretty cool as well. (Props to Trueview it looks spot on).
I'm afraid to list it cause apparently nobody knows who NJ Tracy is and/or how or why PCGS would straight grade it.
Pretty cool having a Pop 1 coin though. Zero finer :D that just smells like aged scotch.
There are other Brunks from varying years which you can find from Coinfacts.
