I just got back from Mount Vernon

And I am tired from all the walking! It felt like everything was uphill...
Great visit overall.
Here's a few numismatic pics of medals they have in the museum there.

    It must have given you shivers to stand by his grave

    It was wild to see. I didn't realize that they moved him from his original burial vault 31 years after he died to the current location.

    They are updating operating hours soon.
    We thought the whole place was closing at 4:30 but it was only the grounds area at that time and museum area closed at 6.
    4-D movie was really cool.
    I would suggest going in the fall when the weather is cool because of all the walking. Much hillier than Maymont!

    J R Snowden's 1858 Washington Medal Collection plan included a duplicate set of medals for Mt. Vernon. Not sure what happened to those.

    Out of curiosity, any medals displayed of the Admiral?

    I believe that this piece was issued in the mid 19th century by a man named Sage.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    @BillJones

    I think you're right about Augustus Sage issuing it for his historical series.

    It's struck by George Hampden Lovett, and his initials are above "Mount Vernon" on the obverse.

    I visited Mount Vernon with my older sister around 2000 new years; what an inspirational place. My uncle worked in the state department and attended Washington's old Episcopal church.
