Let’s see your Unstruck Planchets
Kind of a highlight of my roll searching days, someone had “tested” this with a scratch. I can only imagine the scenario…….a clerk arguing about whether on to accept it as a penny……the solution….scratch to the zinc! HA. Problem solved and hopefully it was cheerfully accepted for the penny it thought it was!

Silver Libertad planchet (with lettered edge) struck in aluminum. Probably a pattern for size and/or the edge lettering.
Large cent planchet with a clip.

Love it!!
Is there a reason "error" isn't on the label?

I wonder…..are there any unstruck 3cent silver or 20cent piece unstruck planchets?
@FredWeinberg or @Byers would probably know.
I’ve never seen or heard of either of those blanks or planchets.
None that I am aware of.
Okay, let me think about this a minute...
An unstruck planchet... What's an unstruck planchet? An unstruck planchet is a planchet or a blank. Right?
What's a struck planchet? A struck planchet is a coin.. Right? I'm confused! 😂 🤣

Here's one of mine from the @RogerB / @Julian collection!
Well, you can have a “blank”, but when it has a “raised rim” it’s a unstruck planchet.
Hmmm. Well, a blank is a blank. But when a blank goes thru the upsetting mill, maybe that could be considered "somewhat" struck? I guess a blank could be considered "somewhat" struck also. When a sheet or coil goes into the blanking press, the sheet is being struck into blanks. But no need for semantics here. 😂 🤣

Blank is freshly punched from sheet of coil roll. Roller marks on both sides remain, my favorite of 4 Types.
Blank then beat up from going thru annealling process to soften metal with thousands of other blanks in constant contact.
Blank becomes Planchet When it passes thru edge roll machine.
For proof coins Planchet is then put in vat with beads to roughen surfaces creating a shimmery surface.
None are errors when inside the usmint, they become errors when they get released from USMINT.
EXACTLY ! HOW COOL IS THAT , THAT YOU HAVE AUTHENTIC BURNISH BEADS !!!
I got them from Lonesome John long long ago. He had written an article about them. I called or wrote to him offering to buy them. He gave them to me.
When I took the floor tour of the West Point Mint, with Dave Camire, about 20 years ago,
The pellets they used to burnish the proof silver eagle planchets Were plastic, same basic shape as the metal ones shown above, but more elongated.
I assume that the ones you got from Lonesome John were from the San Francisco mint.
