Susan b

Was wondering since most of our grandkids never saw or heard of Sussan b dollars, down the line will they have any collector value to their grand kids.

Last year my son told me he had received a couple in change... as quarters.

They are still out there and still confusing people as to what they are.

Ever since I got out of the Army after my first tour in ā€˜79, I heard about this ā€œnarrow rim or wide rimā€.
At this age, I don’t know why I still look, when I get them.

    And still…. They’re just a buck, mistaken for ā€œanother weird quarterā€. 🤫

    Hi and

    Welcome to the Forum

    šŸ˜€
The Susan B. Anthony coins are unique. Special in a few ways. For one, only a 3 year program!

    You mentioned the children.
Whether they'll be interested or not?
In one area, I can almost promise you. That the kids will be fascinated by the variety aspect!
In the 1979 year. There is a special variety that is more valuable (not much more) than a regular 1979. In the P mint (Philadelphia). It's called, "The Near Date". or "Wide Rim".
Where the year, on the Obverse (the front). This detailed variety are only on the ones with the Date closer, or "nearer" to the rim of the coin than the normal ones!
    I found many.
This is where I think the children would be excited to hunt for? I can hear them saying,
    "Ooh, I found one!"
    šŸ˜†
These are only on the business strikes, not on the Proofs.
    The 1979P's, not the 1979S's,
    The Proofs.
    Good Luck
    and once again...

I give those and other dollar coins out as tips and explain as I do, but there’s no explaining needed for the two dollar bills!

If you’re asking whether the coins will be worth more than face value, if so, I think any premium would be negligible.

Sadly my crystal ball is broken so I cannot see into the future. But my magic 8-ball said no dice. I cannot see these catching fire in the future in an overall sense, only the very top pops will command any significant premium for the registry chasers just as it is now.

    Lol,
Oh yeah, I stand corrected. Thanks
1999, how could I forget that?
That's the year we bought our house!

I think the 99s were not in any mint sets or in circulation. I discovered I actually ordered these; I have a '99P and D UNC and a Proof '99P. Sent them in to be graded recently; the D came back MS67 and I got 1 P70 '99P.
It looks like the PCGS price guide indicates $65 for the MS67 D and $100 for the P70 P. (for what its worth)

I don't think they were in mint sets, but 1999 p and d Susan B. Anthony dollars were released for general circulation as a stopgap measure to meet rising demand from vending and transit machines before the Sacagawea dollar debuted in 2000.

I think they may be a good way to teach people about Susan B Anthony. I’m guessing if you gave some to a kid, they would be curious enough to learn more about her. Like maybe have the coin come to life and teach kids about her life
